Si Russell may poise and maganda court presence.  If ganyan magiging laro niya sa regular season.  Baka kasi taga baba lang ng bola then once he crossess half court, abot na ke Kobe then camp sa elbow or corner for threes.

sana nga magbigay na lang si kobe sa mga young guys.

Hehe, sana nga ....... on a related note, I got this somewhere in the web, during Aldridge's recent failed meeting with the LAKERS.

LaMarcus Aldridge:   So Kobe, what's the offense gonna be like this year?
Kobe Bryant:   I take the shots. If I miss, you go get the rebound then throw it back to me.
LaMarcus Aldridge:   (walks out and proceeds to call the SPURS)

Reports say Embiid might miss the season again. Tsk. Memories of Oden all over again. Sana naman makapaglaro na siya. Sayang na sayang.

Just finished watching Mavs vs Pels game. 3mins lang yata si Parks. 1foul/1to

Maybe his only chance to play is if Pangos or other guards get injured. Sayang.

So Embiid is officially ruled out for next season.  The drafting therefore of Okafer no longer becomes an odd fit.

Okafor now fits with Noel. He was a nice insurance policy for Embiid.

Okafor had a good showing today against the Lakers. He looked spry and he actually sprinted back on defense unlike his other 3 games in the Utah Summer League. He owned Upshaw and he gobbled up Russell's weak floater attempt in one play. If he could bring the same intensity he did today, he is a sure lock for the ROY this year.

On the other hand, Russell was terrible today. He was trying to do too much. He had a few errant passes and he needs to keep his handle tighter. His shot wasn't falling as well and his free throws looked flat.

Larry Nance was impressive. That 27th pick looks better each game. And then there's Clarkson. That kid just looks like a savvy vet out there in Summer League. Makes me proud that he is half-pinoy.

The knock on Russell pre-draft was his lack of athleticism. And this was right on.

This is the only thing I'm concerned about him - I don't think he can get by people, his first step is far from quick, and he can't finish. He's throwing up floaters and can't seem to elevate. I hope this improves as he grows older, develops his body and plays more.

Maybe trainers can do something about his athleticism.  Because in the NBA, it's gonna be hard to go up against defenses if you don't have explosion. As a big man, you can get away with it.  Let's just say hopefully, he won't be Kendal Marshall 2.0.

Well, Steve Nash was far from being considered athletic all throughout his career so...  ;D

If Russell can transcend to the NBA game the very good court vision & passing skills he's showing then I think he'll be fine.

Saw some highlights of the Bulls-T'wolves game and Bobby Portis was solid, we might see Taj on the trading block soon.

sama mo na rin si John Stockton when it comes to not being considered athletic ... on another note, Clarkson's performance was very impressive

Stockton and Nash are more exceptions to the rule though and not the norm.  They were also outstanding shooters from the perimeter as well as having incredible handles to make up for the lack of athleticism.  At the top of my head, parang 2 lang sila yata who were successful.

Kupchak knows what the LAKERS potentially get from Russell - great court vision, passing, some flair, etc.

Nash & Stockton are indeed great examples of non-athletic PG's who turned out among the greatest ever ....... isama pa si Chris Paul, who was athletic starting out, but mostly uses his craftiness/timing to create space for his shots and passes.

Aside from Nash & Stockton?...Jerry West, Bob Cousy, Pistol Pete Maravich, even Larry Bird.

What do they all have that made them HOF? High basketball IQ. And with the guards; great court vision & passing skills. Every time you can make your teammates look good because of your passes, other players would want to play with you.

.Jerry West, Bob Cousy, Pistol Pete Maravich.  From highlight during their era, they were already considered "explosive" right.  They are able to get by their defenders with a quick first step.  As for Bird, I did mention big guys can get away with it.

Speaking of unathletic PGs, si Magic hindi din athletic dba? (at least from videos I've watched of him). Anyway, I truly hope Russell learns how to be crafty or kahit yung speed/first step lang maimprove nya sana during his rookie season.

Mudiay looked explosive during their first game last Saturday. Even went for a block at the rim during the 1st quarter. But he definitely needs to improve his shooting though. Clanked a few open jumpers.

Some more very good/great PG's whom I consider on the non-athletic side or whose games rely on craftiness and timing rather than explosiveness or hops :

Gary Payton, Chauncey Billups, Sam Cassell, Rajon Rondo, Mark Price, Terell Brandon (a personal fave since his game mirrors that of the PBA great Johnny Abarrientos), Andre Miller (this dude is still ballin'), Terry Porter, etc.

Good examples bro newwaveboy.  Pansin ko mukhang nacoconfuse or intertwine yun "athletic", "explosiveness" and "quick first-step.

Ooh. Yeah, Chauncey. definitely not athletic but used to spam the pick n roll a lot in his days with the Pistons. If Russell can improve his shooting consistently kahit kasing lapit lang kay Chauncey, that would be nice for him and his career. :)

Anyway, Summer League pa lang naman. The kid can learn so much more as the year progresses.

Yup, indeed these terms can be easily confused with one another.

Let's just say that some PG's prefer the ground-based craftiness game (Chris Paul) ........ while some use their quick feet and/or mad hops, to score or set-up their teammates (Russell Westbrook).

As for Magic Johnson, the guy was an aberration, a freak of nature ...... he was very athletic, in the sense that he can run with the best of them (James Worthy on one side & Cooper/Scott on the other), but was as dangerous on the half-court setup with his back to the basket.  ;D

I've watched many PISTONS games (Clark-broadcast) during the 80's and Isaiah Thomas had serious hang-time in those days ....... he moved smooth on the court, as smooth as those jumpers of his.

Yup, one of the best ever IMO ....... there's a reason why I always wore #11 on inter-barangay leagues when I was young.  ;D

Jason Kidd is one of the best pgs who ever played the game who is nonathletic. He is not a good shooter as well but a streaky one.

I was about to name Price, Paxon, JWill.  I think Magic and JKidd were athletic in the way they run full steam while dribbling the ball.  Isaiah was indeed athletic with crazy hangtime.  Athletic = above the rim ba dapat?  Hindi naman yata.  AI is another example of athleticism below the rim.

I agree, those are smart players, andre miller being the smartest..

Athletic for me are shaun marion, kawhi leonard, scottie pippen, 3 different gen..

Kd and melo, sa height nila i think they have best or quickest first step..explosiveness, hands down westbrook and monta ellis, lista mo na sa open court..
The Pats way...

Impressive nga si Mudiay kahapon. I guess one of his advantages over other rookies coming from college is that he is already accustomed to the 24sec shot clock. A few rookies mentioned in their interviews that they are still adjusting to the 24sec shot clock.

Ugly game for the Laker youngsters.

Russell had a lot of turnovers again. A lot of those were unforced. He just threw the ball away.

Clarkson had an off night. And Randle was just plain awful. On the other hand, mukhang ok naman pagpili ng Knicks kay Porzingis. The kid is a twig right now but his length is great. He was able to intercept a lot of passes. The Knicks also got a solid guard in Jerian Grant.
