i don't have front speakers but already have an options. i have questions on surround speakers.

1.) im not sure which "word" to use - same make/model?
2.) if different, should it be less "power" than front? what should be considered?
3.) what is the ideal height when you do not have space at the back ex.: seats fixed to wall.

2. Since sorround is nearer to you, so normally less powered is ok

3. The tweeter should level your ears in listening position (audioholics suggestion)

1. As much as possible, use the same type of drivers. So pretty much the same line/model.
2. Almost all avr's nowadays have automatic calibration systems, so less worries and confusions.
3. According to most articles i've read years ago (when setting up my own surround), 2 feet (approx) above your listening height is ideal.

thanks for the inputs. i posted something via tapatalk seems didn't made it. anyway...

my bed is flushed against the wall and that's where my surround will be placed. i can't put it on ear level perhaps the lowest is by arm length raised when lying on. how do i illustrate it...

That would be fine. You may position the speakers so that it is directed to you but aligned parallel to the floor. or you may point the speakers slightly downwards to your listening level.
The only thing to remember is the "rule" the ht setup guide wants you to know - The surround speakers are there to add effect and should not take your attention away from the screen...or something of that sort.

thanks sir. based on the pic my surround will be on top of the sofa on left most/right most side.

another question, i may have the answer but making sure, so speakers should not a ported pointed at the wall?

im thinking of getting wharfedale's - their budget line up with 4-5 stars

bago rin ako pag setup ng ganito. yung saken wall mounted siguro 4ft mula dub sa height ng sofa. una wala ako marinig then may setting pala dun sa avr para i-adjust yung surround speakers.

so i guess i should just put it farthest apart as possible and perhaps closest to ear level as possible...

If I understand your question correctly then yes. If you plan on mounting a speaker flushed to a wall, the front ported design is the better choice. There are also bipole speakers you can look into. Easier to setup for surround duties. Only drawback is that it cannot be used as mains/fronts in the future. I use bipoles on mine.

ported ang DM600s3, I installed it na nakayuko para di maharangan yung port, so far ok naman for SR,SL,SBR,SBL. Sorry cam phone:

In a 5.1 setup, the 2 surround speakers should be mounted not at ear level, but around 2 feet higher than ear level, and slightly behind the listener's ears.

Reasons:

- Slightly higher than ears --- Better for overhead sounds (e.g.: helicopter flying overhead). 2 feet recommendation is from THX.
- Slightly behind ears --- Better for rear sounds. Dolby and THX recommend 90-110 degrees off-axis.

Speaker stands are usually too low. Proper height is easier to achieve with wall mounts.

also another question: candidate ko yun whafedale 220 for surround. ok ba sya or there are better options. entry level lang po sa suggestions...

@flashDB bedroom setup ba to? If yes then Sir I think the best for you is to assume na highest ear level mo is in a sitting position sa bed. Then dun ka mag reference ng speaker placement mo as per suggestions ng mga nasa thread na to. Pero as per experience kasi bedrooms always change config like bed/furniture placement so suggest ko speaker stands para madali mailipat sakali.

ndotcom - thanks for the inputs. after measuring here and there, reading posts here, i think the platform for my surround speakers will be 4 feet from the ground just above my head. nag contact narin ko dun sa isang member dito who makes custom stand and it will look like big brackets for left and right [ ]

good day. need help again. i've reviewed the thread again and it looks like better to have same make/model as the front but medyo mahal hehehe. im eyeing wharfedale para medyo affordable.

how do you audition for surround speakers? just like the fronts or should it be behind you - movies/effects?

If it sounds good in front, sure it'll sounds good in sorround too..

The point is dapat same harmony ng front mo ang sorround, as much as possible, should be of the same line..

Wharfedale 10CM for center, pair of 10.2 for LR and pair of 10.1 for SR SL. Swak na yan sa hinahanap mo.

@dts_hdma - thanks. i was actually eyeing diamond 121 and 220. yun may mga award para ma lessen yun selections... nadinig ko na yun both pero need to audition again kasi di ko makita masyado difference.
