I was in the hunt for a trusty Media Player that would soon most likely replace my trusted Xtreamer Sidewinder which has been serving me for 3 years now.

My primary consideration was the budget. I would not want to spend more than Php 4,000 for a media player. Movie files are just like test movies for me. If it is a good movie and worth adding to my bluray collection, then I buy an actual bluray movie. My LG TVs sometime read or not read properly movie files hence having a trusty media player which can read all movie files is worth having.

I was intrigued by this Xiaomi Media Box which says its capable of 4K output, bought it at 3,500 brand new with 3 months distributors warranty and very sleek. It blends well with my black gears. It could read my 2 and 1 TB HDD thru a USB hub without an issue. It has very strong Wifi connectivity. Picture Quality is superb with my panny AR100. I have no way of testing the 4k capabilities but suffice to say I like what I see. It has other features which I have not tried out like games.

Weak points. The distributor would still need to install the english language because it is native in Chinese. While it cannot decode HD Audio (DTS lang) but I already emailed Xiaomi and suggested that i was hoping they could add up HD audio encoding.

For my use, I think this is a good buy and worth the attention of other enthusiasts here too. Thanks for reading.

Is this the 2gb version? I bought MX III 4k android player from Lazada. But usually hangs when turned off for a long time.

Testing the MI Box. Another con of this is that it does not totally play atmos formatted movie files. I have 3 sample movies in atmos and it cannot play.

^ i have not tried using airplay from iphone. I read that google play can be installed but i dont know how

i think there is a problem with airplay (at least in the 4th gen) and ios 9. but the android mirroring is flawless

Hi! Since this is an Android box, I assume you're using either KODI or VLC to play 4K or at least 1080p HEVC movies.  Any lag in playing HEVC media?  Also, is this true 4k 60 hz or is it limited to 30hz?  I just want to make sure as I thought only the nVidia Shield TV as off now is the only one that does true 4k@60hz.

I was the one who beat @vgsison to the Xiaomi Mi Box that got sold in our Marketplace (sorry - but glad you found brand new at not much more). The box I bought had Kodi - don't know if it came as default or if the seller installed it. Kodi is a much better player since it has other settings not available in the default player. I haven't tried 4k content yet.

I believe it can be rooted to Android but I don't want to lose the Xiaomi skin as I enjoy the Mandarin content (Chinese and some English movies).

Yes boss philip. Highest audio nya is DTS or Dolby ES. Pero pag atmos totally movie could not be played.
