Tube Pre amp Project
« on: Feb 01, 2016 at 01:37 PM »
who would you recommend to build a good (or very good) tube pre amp.

I have initially inquired with Mang Rod Teope about this project and I have no problem dealing with him again as I really like the sound of his creations, but I just want to make sure that I don't miss out on other talented Filipino builders.

This would be for my personal use, if other audiophiles here like it and I am able to sell some, great   O0

good sound is the number one requirement.. if it looks good, even better

I would prefer original design, not any copy of popular DIY kits/designs

a good sounding mc and mm phono pre amp would be a bonus

I am not sure if Rene has his own designs, but if build quality and neatness of work is the deciding factor, then I would recommend him.

thanks guys for the posts and the pms.

I am also considering another option.. a dac/pre amp combo.

the claim by the designer is it will put the Lampizator Golden Gate to shame. same guy also claimed that it had been directly compared with Devialet 400, and made Devialet sound broken.. tall claim I know, but he is willing to let me try it and compare with anything in the market.

I was quoted direct to manufacturer pricing of US $ 3.5k and Us$ 7k, 2 models daw. I am still getting more info from the guy. He promised me that it will blow the US $20k Golden Gate out of the water. I was actually considering the DHT GG with volume control and analog inputs.

Ewan ko lang kung puro porma lang itong taong ito at kabag lang sa tyan ang ibinubuga, but he seems to know what he is talking about lalo na pagdaging sa digital. I will try his cheap streamer recipe first, if it beats my Aurender like he said it would, then I will take his word really seriously. He is Canadian and originally from Edmonton.

wag muna, baka mausog Sir Jen

I also have to weigh in my exit plan kung sakaling hindi Pinoy made. I don't mind keeping MR's designs because of the Pinoy pride, but for another Canadian Joe Blow, not so much.

and another curve ball was thrown into the picture yesterday, I will discuss more about it when I have more info.

another thing that could derail this project is the new Audio Alchemy stuff... supposed to be really good sounding products at very market friendly prices. Their older products looks ugly, but the new/current models look great.

I am unloading my Wyred for Sound stuff, sold the preamp already. I am not totally sold on the sound, the W4S preamp is great, but the amp is not my cup of tea.
