preparing for 7.1
« on: Jun 16, 2016 at 08:35 PM »
im currently on 5.1 setup.  i have spare speakers and want to use it for 7.1 - wharfedale WH-2 surround.

will it be good if i set it up as front instead? if so, how hight should it be from the front speakers? if not, how high should it be from the surround?

thanks.

I would start with reading your receiver's manual for recommendations on speaker placement.

Which receiver are you using?

Btw, wharfedale's wh-2 i believe is a bipole speaker. Should work well as side surrounds and/or surround back. I wouldn't recommend it for front heights, be it pro logic, dsx, or atmos

@rthirtyfourgtr - denon na 5.1 pero i'll upgrade it when opportunity and budget permits. as for the placement, i can only put it on top of surround or fronts. im just prepping since nagpaayos ako room and para magawa na yun mountings, wirings, and stuff.

i may replace it with Q Acoustics din in the future but for the time being i'll utilize it. sayang. :) pag ready nako i'll just sell it pandagdag sa QA.

baka kasi masira lang pag di nagagamit edi gamitin nalang :)

ok sige assuming I just box it, still what is the recommended height for front/back heights? and which is better between the two - front heights or rear?

habang open and clear yun room, i-ready ko yun mouldings, wires, mounts para isang gawaan nalang. ayaw ko na maulet yun DIY drill ng AM41. kakapagod at makalat :(

if that's the case, then i would suggest you read up material on your target receivers for upgrade.

ok thanks. ayun 3 feet from the F and R and facing the listeners. :) it looks like walang rear height, only surround and back.

another question. say i play dts 5.1, how should the receiver play it to the 2 extra channels? automatic na or like selecting pLIIz (or dts equivalent) to

all of them can be applied regardless if the source is dolby, dts, or even plain stereo. i think even atmos has an up-mixer for non-atmos tracks

just select the desired listening mode for your speaker layout
