Having an oft-injured Howard will alter the college-ball approach in BOSTON ....... I can see Ainge going for it, but Stevens might not.

If they don't get KD, I hope Ainge stays put with their current progress, keep their cap space for the better FA crop next offseason e.g. Lebron, KD (again), Westbrook, Paul, Griffin, etc.

Woj reports that Noah agrees to deal with KNICKS.

Always good to have a smart, passing big in your roster.

Questionable lang yung health nya. Both Noah and Rose, health wise going into the season and the future.

The Mozgov deal makes it look like the Lakers are already waving the white flag of surrender in signing FA's this year. Either that or they are confident already of the offensive firepower that they have in Russel, Randle, Ingram, Williams etc that they just need a mobile big man to patrol the paint and provide rim protection. I do think Mozzy is an upgrade over Hibbert but not that much.

They didn't even get a meeting with Durant, Whiteside and Horford. How things have changed for  LA

Wala akong nakitang positive kay Mozgov sa Lakers. I'll be glad if proven wrong. Grabe naman tinamad yata front office nila ngayon.

I am a diehard Lakers fan. My first reaction to the Mozgov signing was WTF!!! but after some reality check I have accepted this scenario.

It is unfair to say that the FO got lazy. That is wildly unfair to Mitch. I have criticized the guy these past few years but the reports say that Mitch is one of the hardest working GMs out there. He is always on the phone and he always listens to offers/reaches out to player agents all the time. He has said that countless times.

I am sure he did what he could to try to get Whiteside or Horford. But look at the reality. Whiteside already agreed to a deal with the Heat. That means there was a slim chance Lakers would snag him.

As for Horford, he is already 30years old. He was a 2-time champion at Florida. Guess who his coach was then? Billy Donovan. Noah, Horford and Brewer stayed one more year in college to win their 2nd NCAA title for the Gators. I am certain Horford will find his way in OKC because he wants to win NOW. Signing with the Lakers would not bring him closer to a championship.

Durant? Forget about it. No chance.

Yep. Total beggars at this point. Cap space has been rendered useless because even contenders have enough cap space to entice star players. Between a lowly 17-win team and a title contender, the choice is easy. Time to settle for scraps for now. Let the kids grow. Try to enjoy the painful rebuilding era.

Mozgov at 64m with 4th year as team option doesnt look so bad. Without the 4th year, that deal is probably only worth around 40million. Not bad.

Reportedly, Derozan's contract is around $145M for 5 years!!! Insane!!!

What was not revealed was what sort of guarantees and addendums are on Mozgov's contract for the last 2 years of this 4-year deal, which I think will weigh heavily on the Lakers' favor.  Given the current, er, economic situation with the NBA, I actually think this is a good deal by the Lakers.  Mozgov proved last year that he was very good with the pick and roll, with him, Delly, and LeBron giving the Warriors' coaching staff headaches.

Now imagine Mozgov paired with D'Angelo Russel and Jordan Clarkson and you can see where Mitch Kupchak is coming from.  It's really no wonder that Luke Walton (who saw this potential with his own eyes in the finals last year) signed off on the deal.

I hope the Knicks pick it up this season. I was never their fan but there is something about NY that makes it more fun when they are a contending team. maybe its their fan base.

Yes, that is one thing I forgot to touch on  - Mozgov was actually good with the PnR. He knew how to time his roll perfectly and was able to receive lobs and quick passes from the Lebron/Delly. I'm sure Walton knows this very well as he saw it first-hand.

Anyway, this free agency is an eye-opener. Apparently Evan Turner, a #2 draft pick bust, was able to land a $75M/4yr deal with the Blazers.

I'm wondering how the Heat could retain d-wade. They signed Whiteside to a ginormous deal that would pay him $22m and now they only have approximately $19m to spend. Magiging underpaid na naman si Wade if ever.

Also, imagine the contracts for next year when the cap rises even higher! Players are going to eat.

Its no longer about what the players are worth.  The league is earning so much and the salary cap keeps rising with it so the players are benefiting from all that profit. even the small market teams are spending, parsons just signed with the Grizz for 94M. I guess thats what happens when there is money to spend.

Conley for $30M/year ....... (shakes head).

IIRC after the 2017-2018 season, the NBA CBA will be up for re-negotiation ........ I'm very sure that team owners will want to have another round of AMNESTY provision - so that each team can dispose the most ridiculous contract that they have.

Hope the Lakers make a serious push for Harrison Barnes. Max money on a 2-3 year deal. The guy to me is better than Parsons or Turner. They need a proven player, young and versatile, to serve as go-to guy to their young core. Barnes can still develop into a more solid player.

God no. Harrison Barnes is what you call "it's a trap"  player. You think he can do more. You think he can be better but he really is just what he is right now, IMO. Parang si MKG, akala mo may ibubuga. Akala mo there must be something more to this kid. Pero wala.

Barnes came undone in the finals and it was horrible.

Wouldn't getting Barnes for max be counter productive to the development of Ingram?  The Mozgov signing was sound in principle.  They needed rim protection.  But getting Barnes who plays basically the same as Ingram and for max might not be.

They can play together. Barnes is ready to play now and it would ease some pressure off of Ingram to be good right away.
