HELP! Testing a NextBase 656 with MP4
« on: May 22, 2006 at 03:00 PM »
Good Day Brothers...

Hingi lang po sana ako nang tulong with regards to my DVD player which is a NextBase NB-656 Model (yung cute na slim white he he he). It says it can play an MPEG 4 Video with Multi-Channel Audio (na nakatatak pa sa front).

I have no problem pying divx, xvid movies pero gusto ko ma-test kung totoo na nakakaplay sya nang MP4 format na... nag-download ako sa net nang maliit na mp4 file, and it plays on my computer using the 3ivx codec, ngayon nang ipe-play ko na siya sa DVD player ko... lagi niya sinasabi No Disc :-(

What could be the problem... is it the DVD Player which says it can play MP4 pero hindi naman? Or is it the MP4 file itself.

Help naman on how to test po especially jan sa mga katoto natin na pareho ko nang DVD Player, i already tested it on lots of files pero pagdating sa MP4... bigo ako :-(

Thanks... God Bless Pips.

Here is the test I did with the  NB-656 using the DivX Test CD 2.0:

MPEG4 ASP (XviD, DivX 4, DivX 5, DivX 6, 3ivX, Nero Digital ASP…)
Vid 3A – MPEG4 ASP 4CC DivX + MP3 CBR (simple DivX codec compatibility test) = YES
Vid 3B – MPEG4 ASP 4CC XviD + MP3 CBR (simple XviD codec compatibility test) = YES
Vid 3C – MPEG4 ASP Bframes + MP3 CBR (multi Bframe without packet bitstream compatibility test) = YES, Number of bitstream supported is 3 (out of maximum 3)
Vid 3D – MPEG4 ASP Bframes pack and bitstream + MP3 CBR CBR (multi Bframe with packet bitstream compatibility teats) = YES, Number of bitstream supported is 3 (out of maximum 3)
Vid 3E – MPEG 4 ASP Custom Matrix + MP3 CBR (Custom matric compatibility test) = YES
Vid 3F – MPEG 4 ASP Qpel + MP3 CBR (Qpel compatibility test) = YES
Vid 3G – MPEG 4 ASP GMC 1 WP & 3 WP + MP3 CBR (GMC 1 & 3 Warp Point) (DivX and XviD compatibility test) = YES, with 3 Warp Points
Vid 3H – MPEG 4 ASP Bitrate Crash Test + MP3 CBR 750/1500/3000/4500 (crash test with 4 levels of complexity)= YES, Supported bitrate is 4500
Vid 3I – MPEG 4 ASP High Definition 1280*720 (HD720p compatibility test) = NO, but with audio
Vid 3J – MPEG 4 ASP High Definition 1920*1088 (HD1080p compatibility test) = NO, no but with audio

I also had a problem playing a MP4 before but it turned out that the file has 720p resolution which my TV cannot play ( but there is audio), as shown in the test results above.

As to your problem, better burn the file again on another medium or DVD-R/CD-R brand. And most importantly do not remove the .avi extension file in your file when you burn it/them. I did it once before and it won't play in the 656.

Better yet, can you give the site where you downloaded said MP4 file. Ida-download ko and i will test it on my player. If it plays, then maybe there's really a problem either with your media or your player.

The DVD God has replied.... Thank You Quitacet....

Yes Sir I experience it once... nag-download ako nang divx movie natanggal ko avi file then di nya na-read but then yung mpeg4 na pine-play ko is  mp4 ang extension po, burn ulit ako bago kagabi, sa isang TDK CD-R, ang contents niya eh 3 mp4 and 1 divx, yung divx lumabas sa selection screen pero yung 3 mp4 di niya na-recognize talaga. :-( Shall I change the extension from .mp4 to .avi?

Have also seen your post before Sir regarding your test kaya sabi ko bakit di ako maka-play mp4.

I am very happy with the performance of this DVD player... playing mp4 file lang talaga ako hindi successful. Last sunday ko lang siya tine-test for an mp4 file although I have this player since last December pa.

Bro, puede mo rin ba ako mabigyan nang mp4 file na gumagana sa DVD player mo so I can test it on my player din? May na-read nga po pala ako na article about MPEG-4... DivX, Xvid is an MPEG-4 Codec which means my player is actually working tama po ba? Pero confuse lang ako kasi pag ang extension eh mp4 na... hindi talaga siya ma-recognize :-(

Sir here is the link of one file... I uploaded it since I lost the link.

   http://rapidshare.de/files/21142776/armedhelicopter.mp4.html

This one also sir... a torrent
       http://www.torrentbox.com/torrents-details.php?id=44388

And this one... which is an avi file which i converted into an mp4 file.
       http://rapidshare.de/files/21147417/NBA_Greatest_100_Plays.mp4.html

Thank you so much for the information and help Bro... I really hate it going into the service center. Malayo ang Binondo sa Cavite =/
If you don't mind... Sir where can I buy a DivX Test CD? Your post is very helpful.

Thank you Sir... God Bless!!

i checked the first file ... this MP4 is neither divx nor xvid. so your player might not be able to play it even if you rename it to AVI.

i think this is the same MPEG-4 codec used in the PSP... and playable by newer versions of quicktime.

i suggest you convert it there. (you'll need to have quicktime PRO tho.)

you can download the ISO for the divx test CD (version 2.0) here: http://www.divxtest.com/What-is-DivxTest-Where-can-I-find.html

does this mean NB-656 Player can only play DivX, Xvid which is actually an MPEG-4 Video compliant and not those files which have the extension of .mp4?

Sir Quitacet where are you po?

hakudaten,

Sorry, di ko pa nase-save yung mga files mo. I have a lot of BBC torrent files that are finishing right now. I can't stop them because some seeders are here today, gone tomorrow.

As soon as I can test them, I will. Pcnsya na.

P.S. As to the NBA's 100 greatest plays mo. Why did you convert it from .avi to .MP4?

Just curious.   IF your player can read high resolution MP4, then it should be able to read HD-DVD discs.  If I recall right, HD-DVD uses MP4 at high resolution.  So it's only an upgrade to a higher resolution TV that is needed, right?   TIA

actually, i don't think it can "decode" the video container of an AVI file whose resolution is bigger than or equal to 720 x 576. it can, however, read the audio container (which was MPEG layer 3). that's why only audio is played when attempting playback of these files.  ;D

just curious... does the nextbase make claims that it can play MP4 files... all i know is it is a divx (and xvid) player.

Sir Spaceman,

NB-656 in front says it can play MPEG-4 Video with MultiAudio, and its true it can play DivX and Xvid (i have lots of movies with this format... .avi extension) and may be that is what they are saying na MPEG-4 Video since DivX and Xvid standard are MPEG-4, but not literally .mp4 files.

Salamat po Sir Quitacet, w8 ko na lang po kau. Hmmm loaded nang torrent... dami movies siguro download ;-)

Hi guys, how long have you been using this player?  Just want to get feedback with regards to the quality of nextbase, particularly this model.  I'm planning to buy a new player and I'm seriously considering this one (w/ divx and 5.1 channel out.  Thanks!

be advised that this particular model has no internal DTS decoder. it's still a very good buy, in my opinion.  ;D

this player has been lengthily discussed here... http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=46157.0 . you might want to check that thread out.  ;)
