http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=50593&item=5710936924&rd=1

pangit nga! ;D ;D

questions mga bro.  Is it safe to use Scott (e.i. 222d) as preamp via tape out?

will it damage the Scott's driver part leaving it on without speakers?

will it damage speakers?

thanks  8)

Vrion,

this is the answer i got from vhhscott forum. :)

Craig, Kim,

That was an excellent suggestion. I can remember a situation that happened back in the 1950s. My dad was into HiFi when it was starting to mature in the late 50s. He had a modest income, working for the Glenn L Martin Company in Baltimore. He had for an amp the Knight Kit 18 watt amp that used 6973 outputs. (I still have that amp but it needs work) He built a speaker enclosure out of wood from an old TV cabinet. It is still at my mom's home.

He had a friend that worked with him that also lived about a block away. I don't know what type of amp his friend Tom had but he did not have a HiFi speaker yet so he hooked it up to the console TV speaker. You knot the type, small magnet, 10" "full range" type, probably capable of handling about 4 watts.

Well, Tom got a copy of the 1812 Overture probably the Mercury label on vinyl. I have that one as well on vinyl and reel-to-reel. He was playing it one Sunday. Well, you have probably guessed what happened. Tom told dad on Monday "It really sounded great. But when the cannons went off, there was a loud crack and the TV never sounded the same!"

So Kim, Craig is absolutely right. Sending a spike through that amp with speakers attached could just foul up your whole day!

Good luck and please keep us posted.

Don

The tape out can feed another integrated amplifier, the volume control of the Scott (or any amp for that matter) does not affect the output of the signal of the tape out. Even if the Scott is off, the tape out will provide the signal to the next amp..

No speakers connected to the Scott Amp ?...this is safe as long as you have a speaker off switch in the amp, this internally connects a dummy load to the amplifier.  Another option is to connect resistors in the loudspeaker connection to provide such a load...

Want to use it as a pre-amp ?...try connecting the headphone output of your Scott to your desired power amp...I tried it and it works with negligible (to me none at all, some will say meron) loss of dynamics. This would enable your Scott to work Like a Pre-amp......BTW...if your Scott has headphone jacks...it should have a speaker off switch....done this before, when I had the Dynaco ST70 II

Another option is to have a certified tech create a pre-amp output for your Scott, my Scott 299d has a built in Pre-out ...buts its mono, I use it to provide signal to my subs so okay lang....if your Scott has such output, i guess it would be easy to separate the left and right  signals...

hmmnn intersting, might a well give it a try.   yup it has a headphone jack, i just have to preprae a customized cable.  Will it not saturate my Amp's input?

heard a 299D with a dahlquist and was impressed by the sound.

heard again with a audience 52, and was impressed a lot vs when paired with a st70.

result: got a LK72B power amp but due for restoration.

i really love vintage over modern amps.

Good luck on your restoration! Hope your 7591s are in good condition.  NOS 7591 tubes are hard to find.  I had to source mine in HK.

Cheers.

Which Scott 299? If the C or D, it's good for rock music  ;)
