Well done in terms of its religious/inspirational aspects, but I think the look of the films is somewhat disappointingly inconsistent. The period costumes, production design & Spanish locations are all excellent, but I don't think they used them to full advantage. Some of the scenes looks quite bland & visually boring, while others are done well enough. The quality of the special effects also varies. The Spanish-French battle scene in particular has very fake looking effects. Overall, I think this is a good effort, but it feels more like a fine Hallmark TV movie.

I enjoyed Ignacio de Loyola, but yes, it could have been better. On the production side, they were hampered by a USD800K budget - including marketing - so that was a challenge from the beginning.

However, I felt the story itself could have been more compelling if it were structured as a courtroom drama around the Inquisition's investigation of Ignacio's activities. It would have better balanced the biographical aspect and the religious themes of the film.

You cannot expect that kind of complex Filmaking from a neophyte movie director ;D
