hi to all,

I'm just new here at pinoydvd!: :) Does anyone have any bad experience with the Marikina Central Post Office (tax above 20php?)?
I plan to buy dvds from us online (amazon?! perhaps!) via international shipping...

regards,

da-patriot,

Welcome to PinoyDVD :).

If you're planning to order from US online sources, Amazon in particular, why don't you try the ongoing PinoyDVD-myUSmailbox promo.  Your DVDs get shipped to a personal virtual US address and myUSmailbox takes care of shipping the items to the Phils. for you. This way, you get your orders quickly and you avoid paying any taxes. Plus you can avail of certain shipping discounts that are exclusive for PinoyDVD members only.

For details, just click on the link at the bottom of the page... myUSmailbox Christmas DVD Deals. This is a good option for shipping items ordered directly from the US.

Happy shopping ;).

Cheers - Neo  :)

mic_09,

Actually, I'm not sure about that as well because I did not use the online registration option when I signed up early this year.  Maybe Mr. myUSmailbox (Randy M.) can enlighten us on their online security.

I simply requested for an application form which they sent to me by email and I faxed them all my details including my credit card info.  In fact, if you download the PinoyDVD-myUSmailbox promo FAQ and Application Form from the link below, it will take you to an application form document which instructs you to send the a copy of completed form (plus other documentation) by fax in order to immediately activate your account.  You then send the originals by courier or bring it in person to their Makati Office. I don't think the online registration option will qualify you for the promo.

Hope this helps.

Cheers - Neo :D

P.S.  BTW, I almost forgot...Welcome to PinoyDVD ;)

MyUSmailbox website is SSL-Secured
Dear Mr. Mic_09,

Our website's Registration Form and Credit Card Info is SSL-Secured. The reason why you cannot see it in the URL is because we put the registration page in "stealth" mode. If you try looking at the bottom part when you are loading the regitration site, it says "https://.......".

Anyway, since a few weeks back, we "disabled" the registration form because we decided to process all applications manually, meaning, we have to get the documents filled-up and signed, and obtain proof that the applicant has his/her own credit card that can guarantee shipments.

We highly encourage you to download the Application Forms from the PinoyDVD.com website so that you can avail of this rare promo that we don't usually give out to any other partners.

Our 6 years experience in this business will truly help you facilitate online shopping. Do give us a call if you have any questions.

Better yet, go visit us in SM MegaTrade Hall today until Sunday, Dec. 2. We have a booth at Business Start-Ups Expo 2001.

Best,
The MyUSmailbox.com Team

Hi Krayzyfu_tangerine,

Siguro dahil pasko na! Wrong timing.  ;)

Learned my lesson, though. I was also charged the last time I used the Post Office in Makati. P900.oo for a $42.00 order at Tau trying to take advantage of the free shipping.  Yours is a lot more expensive. Ask for an official receipt or else DHL lang makinabang doon.

I learned about the customs thing the hard way, , but i had a blessing on the side.  I chose the 7-10 day international delivery from amazon, on the 15th day, when my order of 3 discs didn't arrive, i asked amazon and so they sent me a new shipment at no charge at all.  Still after 15 days, no discs, amazon sent me a third shipment for free.  A few days after they emailed me telling me they already sent the 3rd package, I recieved my first package, it was a month delayed.  I subsequently recieved my 2nd and 2rd shipment.  So the amount I paid for in the customs was augmented and it turns out after computing tha amount I paid minus the amount I sold the discs for, I got the discs for free. :P

Hi Crispy!

Baka ma karma tayo diyan! Baka madala ang amazon sa mga Philippine shipments o madaling ma-bankarote sila. Siguro to be in their good side, maaaring isoli via courier yung pangatlong shipment para oks. Then sell the second set to recoup all you additional expenses. Suggestion lang naman. (Payong kaibigan lang ;) )

Pero mukhang nabenta mo na yata lahat ah! Anong mga titles?

Actually I sold them na nga.  Maybe if I had learned about this forum at that time, baka nga binalik ko yung 3rd package.  Next time I know better to order door to door para mabilis and no tax.  Sila eh, they didn't take into consideration that mail here is really slow, so they should've put more than ten days on their site.  The titles were Thomas Crowne Affair, Reservoir Dogs, Blade Runner, and Se7en.

I ordered one dvd title worth $50 from amazon.com through expedited international shipping.  the dvd shipped last dec 11.  I got it yesterday dec 19.  It was delivered straight to my desk in pasig.  No taxes, no going to the post office, no import processing fee.

Am I lucky or what?   ;D

To those who've been charged a lot of tax, you might wanna try talking to the customs people before you actually pay the big fee.  Customs charges seems subjective, as determined by the custom offical.  So, if you try and tell them it's too much, maybe they would consider and probably lower your tax, or nullify your tax at all!

Might not work for everyone, but well, it's worth a try anyway... :)

My story: (My First Encounter with Customs at the P.O.)

Just came from Mandaluyong PO this morning. I had 2 shipments: 1 box set of the Godfather collection from Amazon and 4 DVDs from TAU:

When I got to the PO, I gave the claim slips to the lady (as usual) but I was surprised when a guy from Customs suddenly appeared from behind me.

He started to open the Amazon box (because there was no declared value since it was a replacement for the previous defective set that I got), the TAU box however had a declared value of 100+ Can $.

C-Guy: "Taxable ito,a."
Me:    "Dati na akong pumi-pickup dito wala naman tax,a"
C-Guy: "Wala lang ako noon. (yeah, right).Bakit walang value ito?"(referring to Amazon box)
Me:    "Replacement yan nung previous package ko"
C-Guy: "E,ito? (opens the TAU box)..."Apocalypse Now, Amores Perros...etc,etc..."
Me:    "Magkano ba tax?'
C-Guy: (gets a claculator and started computing)"Hmm. Sige, wala na itong Amazon, sabi mo replacement,e. Ito na lang isa. (Continues calculating). Eto.
Me:   "1,213 pesos?" (I started questioning his computations, he explains clearly naman.)
C-Guy: "Teka, kukunin ko yung resibo"(he leaves for a while)

I talked to the P.O. lady who knows me very well.

Me: "Bakit may tax ngayon? Dati naman palaging wala, a?."
Lady: "Natiyempong nandito siya, e. TAWARAN MO. TAPOS WAG KA NANG HUMINGI NG RESIBO."

The customs guy comes back:

Me: "Sir, bawasan nyo naman, wala sa budget ko yan,e.Wag nyo na lang resibuhan."
C-guy: (Acts as if surprised (duhhh), nagisip kuno)"Sige, 800 na lang."

As I was collecting my package, he continues: :"Daming dumadating dito niyan! Lalo na yang Ama-zone(pronounced as "zone"). Marami, taga GREENHILLS (beware, people!)!"

Me: "Thank you, sir. Ano ho pangalan nyo?"
C-Guy:  [He tells his name]
Me:"Ah, Papaano ho yan meron pa akong paparating na package?(I have another 5 DVDs arriving from Djangos)"

C-Guy: "Sige, bigay ko na lang sa iyo, yon!"  ;D

Moral: Be nice to Custom people, para walang hassle. :'( :-/
;D   >:(
