You need to earmark funds for maintenance. Sometimes tubes and other components fail. It is part of life with tubes.

^yes, tube amps are never bullet proof....

DHT tubes, like the 300b, 2A3 and 845 can have shorter life span
simply because they are run in classA and operates on the brink,
and that is because that is where they sound their best...

so if you have the means, and deeper wallet, then go ahead,
if not, better go solid state....

there are however tube amps that cost less than the usual triodes
if you are not allergic to mere tv tubes....

thanks for the replies.

sir tony, I'm not familiar with DHT. but a quick check at the net gave me an idea.

I asked the question because I don't see this brand "TRIODE" often in this forum nor anyones feedback on its performance. not sure if anyone is using it.

on a diff note,

are there DIY people who do clones of commercially produced tube amps for a lesser cost ? or since it is DIY it will cost more than the commercially produced one?

there are many local talents, Andrew Sevilla is one, Rene Rivo is another,
Ronald DeJesus, Erik Flores and a lot others, they are on facebook....
contrary to popular belief, it is cheaper to buy a branded amp....
DIY is expensive, even though they may appear to be cheaper in price...

the thing to consider heavily is the after sales service, as tube amps
require maintenance...

Had one yung Kt88 model.

Triode is a Japanese brand, similar in positioning to Leben.

Very robust build and a cut above the usual China made amp.

That being said, it uses stock China tubes. I changed the preamp tubes to NOS and the power tubes to the Russian reissue Gold Lions and the sound improved by quite a bit.

To add the tedious process of winding the power & opt transformer, making holes and polishing or painting the chassis manually . Plus the quality parts the builder will use, for example the quality of irons (IE) to be use for power and opt transformer, capacitors, resistors etc etc. that makes the DIY Tube Amp more expensive compared to Mass Production readily available solid state or tube amp in the market.

Correct but you do get what you pay for . . . Check out the pics of the Triode and Leben amps and the quality of the wiring and components.

why clone when you can design and build better?

that's what I thought   but knowing the price diff between a DIY project and a mass market one. better to skip the idea na lang. unless you try to learn how to do it by yourself

Yes they are, unless if you are willing to spend more on exotic output transformer. Maraming choices sa output transformer, there is some case na makakabili ka na ng branded / ready made tube amplifier sa presyo pa lang ng output transformer.

some exotic OPT's are much expensive than a brand new tube amplifier... Edrels, OpT's are really good! its been the choice of diyers here in Cebu! well built, great cores!

thank you Choy, but i am not a seller of amps, i make them as a hobby,
but this is not to say i will not sell my amps, but only to those who
thinks in much the same way i do......i do not sell amps as a "bread and
butter thing", money has never been a motivation.,.
katuwaan lang......and if i will not be having fun, i will not do it...

Victor Sierra, and Brady Lucero of Cebu, i met them at the Dusit Hotel
last november, Brady, Edrel and me had a blast.......

while some will say that tube amps are about tubes, i say that tube amps are really about the transformers used....
tubes are easy, just buy the ones you like and stick them in....

oh, ganon pala yon. thanks sa info. parang nabasa ko nga the bigger the transformer the better
