MGM has officially announced the DVD release of The Manchurian Candidate: Special Edition, with an earlier than expected street date of 07/13. The disc will carry an SRP of $14.95, and will include the film in anamorphic widescreen video, with audio in Dolby Digital 5.1 and mono. Extras will include audio commentary with director John Frankenheimer, the Exclusive Interview with Frank Sinatra, George Axelrod and John Frankenheimer featurette, the Queen of Diamonds featurette interview with Angela Lansbury, the A Little Solitaire featurette interview with William Friedkin on Frankenheimer, 2 Easter eggs, an animated photo gallery and the theatrical trailer.

Surprised to see a "non-commercial" film like this being given the SE treatment. It will be interesting to hear Frankenheimer's commentary. Wished he had done Grand Prix before he left, though.

actually, halos walang pagkakaiba itong SE na ito sa present version which also has some special features, the problem here eh baka wala pang insert itong SE na ito, which is now prevalent even among r1 current releases

I think an upgrade to the SE would be worth it. I was disappointed with the letterbox format of the current version. Frankenheimer always looks great in anamorphic widescreen, and I hope they take the time out to source a good master or at least do some restoration to clean-up the print and eliminate the transfer artifacts. New extras are welcome of course.

By the way, this is getting the SE treatment to promote Jonathan Demme's remake which is scheduled to come out sometime this year. Pretty stupid exercise if you ask me, plus in true Hollywood PC fashion, they got Denzel Washington to take over Sinatra's role. And this takes the cake: Meryl Streep is playing Eleanor Shaw! ARRRRGH!

i didnt double dip on this one.mukhang wala namang gaanong improvement from the original release.pero kung me magtitinda sa inyo ng murang presyo ng special edition, why not.lalo nakung around P500.oo flat lang ang price pero second hand. napakaganda talaga ng movie na ito. nagtataka nga ako kung bakit kokontilang ang nakaka alam na super great ang movie na ito.

got the SE immediately after i was able to trade my orig. release ......i'd say that it has a much improved video transfer mainly because it's now in anamorphic widescreen
