Any Celestion Fans here ?
« on: Apr 15, 2004 at 11:01 AM »
last night i bought a 3 yr old celestion 3000 speaker + stands, though the outside condition is no longer bright and shinny, the sound is another story! The 1st time i heard it play, i instantly feel in love with the sound that it produces.

before i bought it we made several test runs, first using tubes and very ordinary speaker cables, then using a nad c320bee, the sound was consistent enough that even the nad can easily make it sing just like the tubes.

at home now i have attached it to a yamy avr bi-wired it using a 14 puresonic and a 12 audio pro....  the set up maybe simple but still the sound blows me (it maybe just me since i used to own only a wharfedale and latter a mission, thats how far my personal experience is on speakers, but i was able to audition a sonus mind you).

however, i bought it bare, no box no manual, and have relied solely on the sound i heard.

has anyone else used this set of speakers?
what is your personal experience?
comments on this speaker?

twill be highly appreciated.

been going around some audio shop but all of them that i visited does not carry the celestion brand.

thnx.

Peace man!!!  O0

Their very good speakers !!!...not in the leages as the smaller bookshelf speakers from Celestion like the SL 600...I would not recommend them for HT, since explosion and shattered glass sound may damaged the IRREPLACEBLE RIBBON TWEETERS....

have fun

goodness! and to think i am planning to use it for HT last night! lucky for me i have no new titles as yet kaya i wasnt able to watch a movie using them. "thank you sir qguy", you just save them speakers from me!

actually, this is connected to an avr temporarily as i am intending it really for audio, that for now i am slowly assembling due to budgetary constraints, hehehe.

but how about hard pounding rock music? the metal genry type? as it produces hard hitting sound that is almost comparable to explosions or shattering glasses in movies, wouldnt it damage it?

im more into rock music kasi and this new info bothers me. i will greatly appreciate your advice.

play moderately... is the only advise I can give you...

Honestly if the Ribbon drivers were replaceable,  I would bought them the first time I heard them about 7 years ago.....

i listened to a celestion sl6 from a fellow member yesterday and the like the sound of it. high frequency is very much appreciated especially when used with pre-terminated speaker cables. If i happen to see someone selling this speaker, i would gladly adopt it hehehe

I find the SL6si very musically involving ..excellent for female voices, violins, slow rock......never heard Montavani's greatest hits sound so good.....

On the other hand...the thing does not have much bass...rolls off at about 70hz.. but the mids are so nice..you forget about its bass limitations.......and just enjoy the music...

Agree.... we tested it with a Metallica song and i notice the deficiency in bass response considering that it is only a 4-inch driver i guess but the hf and mids are excellent.

saw a pair of sl6 at Lito Gelano's store in Paco. Used to own one myself but the si version and i agree with you with its characteristics in highs and mids but a little short in lows. Quite hard to drive though. Matched well with my 75wpc ss amp.

the one I have is the Sl6si ..."SI" for "Slightly Improved" specs should be pretty much be the same for other variations.. SL6, SL6s and the SL600  or even the Sl 700,  main difference would be the Enclosure for 600/700 Aerolam instead of wood and the tweeters ..copper or aluminum

Sensitivity..  82db....I drive mine with a 35 Watt tube...rarely nasa below the 12:00 level yung Volume control ko...

Power Rating 150 Watts

Bass Rolls off at 70 Hz....so Metallica fans need not apply..
1.25 Aluminum tweeter....
6 inch "woofer"....

very transparent monitor...Laid back sound...very laid back sound..hehehe

true...hehehe... I guess its because there is no active dealer of Celestion (Home audio..pro audio meron ata) here in the Philippines, unlike Mission, AE, MA or Wharfedale......but back in the 80's Celestion ruled the bookshelf loudspeaker world.....

its probably due to the fact that celestion has bought the kef, and has shifted its marketing to kef for the speakers, internationally and retained its research only on celestion.

and maybe because of the fact that celestion isnt that consumer friendly when it comes to prices (but i can honestly swear its a value for your money purchase)  that even there old models (luma pati design, hindi space age tulad ng newer designs ngayon ng mission wharfe etc...) are priced above the 20k range (for the unused) and 10k above for the 2nd hands.

i dont even think celestion still has a marketing arm here in the philippines. wish they would....

after 18 months in hibernation, lets bump this subject. baka marami ng nakalimot na may Celestion brand speakers.
yes, count me in. i'm a fan. a very proud owner of a pair Celestion SL12Si. its sound is supposed to be "a little on the dark side, warm and layered." i agree..  ;D

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.
