Michelle Yeoh, Justin Chien Fight to Protect Their Family in ‘The Brothers Sun’ Trailer

Michelle Yeoh is balancing a criminal underworld with parenting duties in the first look at The Brothers Sun.

Co-created by Brad Falchuk and Byron Wu, the Netflix series stars Yeoh as Eileen Sun, a shrewd and savvy woman who built a life for herself and her youngest son, Bruce (Sam Song Li), after leaving the world of Taiwan’s gangsters and crime behind.

But years after settling in Los Angeles, her past catches up with her with the return of her eldest son, Charles (Justin Chien). Raised and groomed as a hardened criminal within a Taiwanese triad run by his crime boss father, Charles — known as “Chairleg” — has arrived to keep his mother and brother safe after his dad is killed by an unknown assassin.

Currently rated 80% at Rotten Tomatoes with 25 critic reviews counted. Audience Score at 94%.

Critics Consensus:  While The Brothers Sun's mix of brutality and sweetness sometimes veers into tonal whiplash, inspired fight choreography and a terrific cast keep it a fun family affair.

I am currently 4 episodes in and it is so far, so good. Likable characters, interesting family dynamics, good pacing, well choreographed martial-arts fights and some amusing humor. Still waiting for Michelle Yeoh to join in the action though (if her character ever will, that is).

Good watch, though it was rather convenient for the protagonists that the antagonists don’t use guns in America of all places. 😆 Sabagay, tapos agad storya kung ganun

Oo nga. Finished Season 1 last night and mainly guns only came into play at the last climactic fight scene... ;)

SPOILERS AHEAD!  Start highlighting here I wish the ending for season 1 was a bit longer where the pacing was slower, it felt a bit rushed, but i guess they had to end it someway,
What if the ending was actually a dream, he enters the house and he actually got shot by his dad.
i mean the father is a big time boss and he's not even protected by anyone at the end, anything after that is just Bruces Dream while he's in the hospital or dying.

‘The Brothers Sun’ Canceled By Netflix After One Season

Netflix will not be proceeding with a second season of The Brothers Sun, the action comedy-drama from Glee and American Horror Story co-creator Brad Falchuk and newcomer Byron Wu.

The news comes almost two months after the eight-episode first season of the series starring Michelle Yeoh, Justin Chien, Sam Song Li, Joon Lee and Highdee Kuan was released on January 4.

The Brothers Sun launched to critical praise, with reviewers hailing Oscar winner Yeoh’s standout performance. The show spent five weeks in the Netflix Top 10 for English-language series, peaking at No. 2, but it couldn’t find a large audience. Its performance was modest by Netflix standards, with its number of weekly views staying below 7 million and slipping under 2 million for its last two weeks in the Top 10.

Maganda syang panget. It was very promising in the beginning pero lumaylay na ng lumaylay. Ended up disappointed in this series. Good for Netflix to cancel this series.
