Buying AVR in US
« on: Mar 08, 2018 at 12:58 PM »
Hi guys, a relative has volunteered to send an avr from the US... i can buy from amazon and he will take care of shipping, just curious are there any downside to buying from US aside from warranty and the 110voltage? I only need a transformer right? Any suggestions whether to buy or not are welcome, been away from the home theater scene, Thanks in advance:)

it's actually an upside because it's cheaper there.  just check for the shipping cost (and possible customs tax), though. sometimes it ends up the same price as if it is bought here locally (plus the warranty & 220v version)...

^thanks sir, customs tax will be about 4k based on amazon estimate (and i dont need to pay extra if its more than that based on their policy) if shipped directly, the shipping cost will be shouldered by my relative hehe... so i just need to get a transformer and it will function same as local units? How much does a  good quality transformer cost nowadays? thanks in advance :)

Downside shipping cost. Either the buyer or anybody still shall have to pay for the cost.

Cheaper if you have it shipped via Shipping Cart. I had a Polk Magnifi Mini shipped via Sea (arrived 26 days) for P1,600. The box is really big.
Hindi yan yun SR?

+1 on this, my mom brought in my Onkyo receiver which my sister bought from Amazon way back 2014, I think.

Ok naman na-bend lng ng onti yung isang center channel terminal sa likod, but is working naman.

Bought a Denon AVR 1910 from Amazon about 9 years ago and had it sent by my cousin via her Balikbayan Box along with her other 'padala' and plugged it in the 110V outlet of a 1500W AVR (costs about P2,500.00). Been working well ever since. As commented by several members here upside is the cost even if inclusive of the shipping cost downside is the warranty part which obviously never became my problem. Another down side is the long wait for the delivery since to maintain the low cost it has to be by surface as opposed to the high price air delivery. By the way estimated shipping cost door to door of an AVR is about US$50.00 all in.
