LG 49UH7700 or Sony 49X8000E
« on: Mar 10, 2018 at 09:35 PM »
Hi, which is better between the two: LG 49UH7700 or Sony 49X8000E?
LG has HDR10 and is Super UHD(one level up from UHD/4K according to saleman), while Sony has the Triluminos display. Don't have an opportunity to see them side by side kaya can't decide. The LG is the high end from 2016, while Sony is i think around the middle of the series from 2017.  Hindi na naman nagkakalayo ang price since naka-sale yong LG.

I really can't compare because I don't have an experience with the LG 49UH7700. But I just bought the  Sony 49X8000E last Sunday and I really love the picture quality especially with the Triluminos display. Napaka vibrant ng colors.

One major gripe that I do have with the unit is it hangs frequently if you connect a large capacity external drive. I connected my 1 tb Transcend and the unit would hang everytime I you Youtube and some apps. You have to wait for the unit to completely load the external drives content before the unit can run smoothly and that takes a few minutes

I have experience with the 49X8000E also and agree that SONY is quite possibly the best in class when it comes to color reproduction and motion.

The only knock I have against it is its use of an IPS display. This causes some blacks to be not deep enough for my tastes. For that you'd have to go with an X9000E

IMHO, both are good with color depth but not so on deep blacks.  I was only able to test UH7700 quite shortly during my TV hunting last 2016"
    LG xxUH7700 IPS panel is 2016 mid-level 4K HDR w/ Dolby Vision
Sony xx8000E IPS panel is 2017 mid-level 4K HDR w/ Triluminos (patent of Sony) but w/o DolbyVision

what I have are:
    LG 55UH8500 IPS panel is 2016 hi-end 4K HDR w/ Dolby Vision
Sony 43x8000D VA Panel is 2016 mid-level 4K HDR w/ Triluminos (patent of Sony) but w/o DolbyVision

both are good with color depth but not so with deep blacks.  both gets really bright and awesome on 4K HDR BT2020 movie materials.  and I find the UH8500 seems better on 4K and 4K HDR rather than the Sony.  and UH8500's built-in speakers is superb as it is 2.2ch (sounds like it has a "subwoofer") unlike the Sony and xxUH7700 which are only 2ch

they equally perform on:
- 720p/1080p upconversion to 4K
- can decode/play x264 & x264 10Bit, x265 & x265 10Bit
- can decode Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus & DTS and even AAC multi-ch
- reads my 1TB & 2TB NTFS external hard drives (Sony can also read exFAT format, an advantage for Mac users)
- no hiccups playing 4K even 4K HDR BT2020 via USB -- I just make sure I connect my HDD with their USB3.0 port
-- we installed Kodi & SPMC with the Sony, on LG we use it's USB movie function
- no hiccups with its HDMI-ARC connected with our AVR or soundbar

apps wise, I haven't done movie streaming on both since I collect movies/series on HDD. my kids use them on Youtube too.  and with the Sony though, we are able to install games from Google Play requiring a gamepad and some old Nintendo (via installed emulator) games.  this is the advantage of Android TV -- we just bought a PS4 controller for gaming =)

good luck with your TV choice...

I read somewhere that not all HDMI ports ng Sony X80E are 4k capable. It has 4 HDMI ports. Does anyone know which port is 4K capable?
