Carmelo Anthony has been traded to the Atlanta Hawks for Dennis Schroder and Mike Muscala (via ESPN)

Sources say he will be waved by the Hawks and will join team of his choice. Houston Rockets are frontrunners

Hmmmm.. ano ba difference ng waive and buyout?

Almost the same with a tiny little difference. "Buying out" is when a player agrees to accepts a lesser amount of salary BY CHOICE  usually to play for another team,

then they get waived.

A team can just waive a player any time and their full salary is guaranteed unless it's unguaranteed.

But the process is the same.

Based on the reports on the three-team trade:

* ATL gets (i) Carmelo Anthony (to be waived) and a 2022 first round pick (protected 1-14) from OKC and (ii) Justin Anderson from PHI

* OKC gets (i) Dennis Schroder from ATL and (ii) Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot from PHI

* PHI gets Mike Muscala from ATL

Bottom line: OKC finally gets rid of Carmelo and his contract to save $$$ in salaries and taxes, ATL is giving the keys to rookie Trae Young, and PHI adds a shooting big man (to probably replace Ilyasova) and removes their excess SFs after signing Wilson Chandler.
We deserve better.

Bayad yun full year but at buy-out amount. Full year I think is $27.9M. Tingin ko ang buy out is $20M.

They drafted Trae Young to be their starting PG. It didn't help as well that Dennis Schroder's performance last season was very underwhelming. The final straw came when he blurted out on an interview that he wants no part on a team that will go on a rebuild.

ang akala ko if buy out.. a team will buy out the rest of the players contract.. paying him full/or agreed price and he gets to play elsewhere...

tapos pag waived naman... player will waive (not insist) on getting his salary to be able to play to a team he chooses...

kumbaga ang buyout is, ayaw ng team sa player and vice versa, so amicable settlement for his release...

ang waive naman... ayaw ng player sa team... so he will just waive his salary for his release...

kala ko ganun..

According to will cain, he will be getting the full 28m, tapos he gets to chose pa which team to play for. Sabi chances daw sa houstin bagsak nya. Swerte pa din.

the way i understand it.....waived siya  pero bayad parin siya for the year maski di siya makapaglaro...nakapaswerte no? hehe...tapos kung may kumuha sa kanya ulit sa team...babayaran na naman siya for that...pwede syang tumanggap ng Veteran's min....

as for Atlanta ..cap space habol nila for rebuilding sila sa tingin ko with Trea Young and Josh Collins to start with

panalo talaga sa players ang buyout,. In NFL if they put you on waivers, ganun din naman, bayad ka ng percentage of your contract, pero you have to undergo a waiver process, parang draft pick, worst teams gets the higher chance to get you. not sure if it was Steve Francis who was buyout and still received the same amount of his salary or closed to..

Wow!  Yun full 28M. Talagang desperate to part with Melo!  So kita pa si Melo kasi at the very least, he gets around 2M the vet minimum!

Beasley is a more than decent scorer ......... sadyang inconsistent & aloof lang talaga.

Magic has long been a fan of Rondo, who has one of the highest basketball IQ's out there, sadyang aloof lang din talaga.

Hehe, makes one think if this was Magic's (or Pelinka's) choices. Magic has been known for making numerous 'bad praises ........ some of these:

** Having Brandon Knight as his no. 1 pick in the 2011 NBA draft ........ a draft with Kyrie, Klay, Kemba, Kawhi, Butler, Faried, Mirotic, Kanter, Tristan, etc, (2011)

** Jimmer Fredette is the real deal (2011)

** Michael Carter-Williams is the next Jason Kidd (2014)

** OKC trading for Dion Waters is an awesome trade (2015)

** Derek Fisher is a great coaching hire for the KNICKS (2014)

** MAVS getting Rondo makes them a contender (2014)
