110V AC Leak from switching power supplies
« on: Mar 08, 2020 at 09:44 PM »
Have you noticed na most of the switching power supplies when plugged thru a switched outlet may nagle-leak up to 110V AC both positive and negative line? and the leak transfers from one device to another. Sample ko from the DC connector of the Portable HDD DOCK thru USB3.0 cable then thru HDMI of Media Player up to HDMI IN ports of AV Receivers then OUT ports and to HDMI Input of display devices.
May isa pa ako na hindi masyado maexplain... The 30ft HDMI v1.4 cable that runs from HDMI OUT 2 of AVR to Optoma projector also has 110V AC leaking from Ground shield and all its Pins when projector is plugged in a switched off outlet and the leak goes out when it is switched on. I think this fried my HDMI OUT 2 years before and now beginning to fry my HDMI OUT 1 when listening to music and when all connected devices were switched off from their outlet.

Leaking 110V AC when outlet is switched off:

NO LEAK when switched on:

110V AC  Leak passes thru USB ground shield of HDD Dock:

Hindi ko na mapakita na hanggang HDMI cable of Media Player connected to AV receiver up to HDMI OUT ng AV Receiver nagfflow ang leaking 110V AC.
Connector also sparks a little when it touched metal parts of AV Receiver and has a tingling sensation when touched with bare hand.
So its better to plug them out when not in use than have it individually switched off sa outlet.

capacitive effects, nothing to worry about, if you test those without end terminations or loads, then you get all sorts of readings....try this: put that end cable very near an am radio, if you hear static, then that is because of the rfi produced by the psu, if you did not hear it, then yours must be a very good psu...
