Will the decline of Blu-Ray & DVD result in no 8K resolution standard for Blu-Ray by 2026?

The only Blu-ray movie I have is Spiderman 3 that came bundled with the Sony 40GB PlayStation 3 in April 2008.

I have not had the inclination to get 4K Blu-Ray player since the first movies started selling in March 2016.

If one was present in the PlayStation 5 in 2020, then good. If not then, good as well.

I just stream the 4K movies instead.

yup. this will be true for both audio and video. I hope spotify will soon introduce HiFi subscription.

Steve Jobs was correct in beginning the phase out of the optical disc drive back in 2008 with the last updated Mac with it was removed in 2016.

I am thinking that the Microsoft & Sony may remove it from their video consoles as early as 2020 or as late as 2026.

For casual viewers, streaming maybe good enough.
One downside of streaming now is that there are very few providers (Netflix is one) who offer lossless audio (Dolby Atmos, dtsX, Dolby TrueHD and dtsHD MA) which HT enthusiasts prefer.

selling point really is convenience.
nothing beats watching or listening want you want at that time you want it.
and you are able to play and manipulate it without even going near your system. that is cool...

quality-wise, for both sound and vision, it still needs some work to do and most of which are actually uncontrollable such as internet speed stability, for example.

i am one of those who decided quality trade-off with convenience and happy that i have done it. i am now currently trying to make the best out of this decision.

Whether you agree with the article or not, one thing is clear: Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO NOW/GO, et al, will always have gaps in their respective streaming collections.

I have a dedicated home theater with a Blu-ray player and honestly, I don’t use it anymore. I’m happy with the comfort and convenience that streaming offers.

My audio set up also is gathering dust (vinyl and cd), as I’m so happy with my Go+Play and Marshall speakers. It must be my age haha.

But for those “talking piece/yabang” moments with visitors, I use my set up.

Has anyone collecting movies on Google Play? I think I'm not suitable for streaming services. For one how can I own a movie? Two is I'm really missing the bonus features on it. Don't count on iTunes, im an Android guy and Apple wants more money to their devices just to purchase a movies with extra Features unlike Google Play Movies which only have the movie only. When we will see Google to add bonus features in their movies?

I still have my DVD collection. I collect select Blurays and 4k Blurays.

But I confess 95% of my viewing now comes from torrents (delete nalang kung bawal)

We have Netflix at home and everyone uses it except me, maybe I'm just old school lol

I think it's the sense of ownership, and ability to still watch movies i want when the internet is down. I love Netflix and all but collecting films is a different matter.

Even though there are libraries and pirated e-books people still buy books.

A little ot, i know netflix is a top streaming app here in the phil, which among these app is a good supplement for netflix
1.amazon prime
2. Fox +
3. Disney life
4. Hooq
5. Iflix

I just saw these 5 apps are free for 6months if you subscribe to globe at home.. so thats why i just got curious on the content of each of these apps

Looks like Magnavision is out of business now. There not releasing new movies this years since piracy torrent and legitimate digital streaming services are now the new norm for Filipinos. I right now purchasing movies through Google play right now. My latest purchase is "Ralph Breaks the internet" SD for PHP 390. I planning to buy HTTYD 3 on digital next month in HD too bad it won't include bonus extras.

Or you can drop netflix for a few months and subscribe to Amazon + Hooq + fox + . Since the total cost of it is just about the same with the rate of Netflix.

This will give you time to get new content on Netflix to build up with consuming new content on Amazon. In a few months time, switch back to netflix and youll get alot of new content.

Go back and forth so that youll do not get tired of seeing the same content.
