They expect higher revenue daw sa new Chase Center. They'll need to invest, than starting their new arena tanking for 2020 draft.

all in na ang lakers. ala prob pag over lux tax. one more 1st tier FA.

Correct me if I’m mistaken but I think they can’t do this. A team can only go over the luxury tax is when they re-sign or extend a player who already is part of the team. They have to build the roster based on the available cap space. It is here when scouting plays a crucial contribution since if done right they can get quality players on the cheap. 2nd rounders or unsigned first round players may be on their radar. Van vleet is an example

Yun Caruso.  He played well to finish the season.

Correct me if I’m mistaken but I think they can’t do this.

Just to clarify the matter re: cap space (iba pa ata yung luxury tax) --- the Lakers will have available cap space to sign a 3rd max contract if they wait until July 30 before finalizing the trade with the Pelicans.

If that's the case, they could have Lebron + AD + Kuzma + Kawhi/Kyrie/Kemba and then fill up the rest of their roster with vet min contracts. They won't have depth and they'll have a very shallow rotation, but it's worked for Lebron in the past.

Parang 2016 Cavs lang din, pero with AD instead of Love (big upgrade) and Kuzma instead of TT.

Best for them to round up the team with quality role players, they already have a potential all star in Kuzma as the third cog in their superstar triumvirate. Adding another superstar with an ego to manage can be an expensive liability in the long run (the likes of Irving or Butler).

They need shooters and more shooters plus a defensive PG or wing. They already have a solid front court.  Now the likes of Brook Lopez, JJ Redick, Danny Green and a Ricky Rubio makes more sense than getting 1 more superstar.

Lebron + AD + Kuzma + Kyrie + Bonga + Wagner + 7 G-Leaguers --- let's go Lakers! :D

Not unless Kyrie takes a big paycut, signing with the LAKERS might not be possible .......... earlier reports say that AD will not waive his trade kicker, so the LAKERS remaining cap will be less $4M more.

IMO the LAKERS are better off signing serviceable FA's rather than 1 more superstar (and vet-minimum types).

Deal with NOP gets done by July 6 - Lakers can't sign another max FA ✖

Deal with NOP gets done by July 30 - Lakers CAN sign another max FA ✓

It's possible that part of the negotiations between NOP and LAL is that they do the deal by July 30 so that the Lakers can sign another max FA. Ang tanong is: Why would the Pelicans do that? Answer is that that's maybe why multiple picks and pick swaps are included in the deal.

Even with that July 30 scenario happens, it will open up if I remember correctly $32.5M in cap space.  However Kyrie is eligible to sign for $139M for 4 years.  That would average $34.75M annually.  So Kyrie would still agree to a pay cut of some sorts should he decide to join LA.

^ I maybe wrong, but that $32M in cap space, also assumes that AD waives his trade kicker ............ heard reports earlier in the day, AD will not part with his trade kicker bonus.

@wojespn
For now, expectation is Anthony Davis trade will be completed on July 6, league sources tell @BobbyMarks42 and me. Assuming Davis declines to void $4M trade bonus, this leaves Lakers with $23.7M in space. There is chance that could be amended to July 30, but it’s still 6th now.

Looks like Lakers cap space won't be enough even for Kemba Walker let alone Kyrie.....unless either takes a massive pay cut.  Even if AD waives his trade kicker.

If the July 30 scenario happens, eto yung magiging pre-trade contracts ng Lakers:

James - 37.4
Lonzo - 8.7
Ingram - 7.2
4th pick - 5.9
Wagner - 2.06
Kuzma - 1.97
Hart - 1.93
Bongo - 1.4
Deng - 5
empty roster spot (0.89) * 3 spots - 2.7

Ang total niyan is 74.26M. Cap space is 109M. So that leaves the Lakers 34.74M to sign a max free agent before completing the AD trade. If the July 30 scenario does NOT happen... well, then the Lakers have 23.82M to play around with and fill up the roster with role players.

I still think they're better off getting a 3rd max player and filling up their rosters with vet minimums. They're gonna be like the Cavs when Lebron was there.

Lakers only a have a max cap space of $32.5 million and not $34.74 million

Quote
.Ranging from $23.7-$32.5 million in salary cap space available for free agency, the timing of the Davis trade is crucial, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN:

If the Pelicans and Lakers had waited until July 30 to complete the trade, the Lakers could’ve had $32.5 million in cap space — enough to pursue a max-contract-level free agent. By waiting until July 30, Los Angeles would’ve been acting like a team over the cap and thus would be allowed to use the fourth overall pick in Thursday’s draft as salary. If the trade is finalized on July 6, that number shrinks to $27.7 million — a number lowered to $23.7 million with Davis’ trade kicker.

Not sure where Woj is getting 32.5M, but the breakdown is already there in my post. In other computations they're uaing 7M for the 4th pick salary but if you'll look it up, the 4th pick salary is actually 5.88M

Whoever the lakers get i think they need to incorporate resiliency in their lineup/system. They should be able to win games even if their stars do no play. Otherwise, they will still have a hard time making the playoffs in the west.

Upon checking, minimum number of players per team is 13 (12 active and 1 reserve.  You posted 12.  Then you pegged 3 players with salaries of 0.9M.  Unless the Lakers get 3 players with 0 NBA experience, minimum salary for the 4 additional players is at least 1.3M each who at least have 1 year NBA experience.

Maybe there lies the difference.

A cap hold called an "incomplete roster charge" if the team has fewer than 12 players (players under contract, free agents included in team salary, players given offer sheets, and first round draft picks). This charge is equal to the rookie minimum salary for each player fewer than 12. For example, if there are 11 players included in team salary, then an amount equal to the rookie minimum salary is added to the team salary5; if the roster is completely empty, then 12 times the rookie minimum salary is added to the team salary. This charge only applies during the offseason.

So empty slots are counted as 12 - # of players on the roster & you use the rookie minimum as the multiplier ($890k afaik) as mentioned above.

im hoping lakes will sign rondo for a vet minimum.. 2 star players are enough. lakers should go for bunch of good role players instead of signing another star. terry rozier panalo na or pat beverly with rondo.

ang dami ko nababasa kahit sa FB mas panalo daw pelicans. parang sinasabi narin nila na panalo pala ang 2017 line up ng lakers? hahaha. parang 2017 lakers lang din yung pelicans ngayon eh.

sanay na sanay ang lakers org and fans sa win now situation and they don't care about the future sayang ang 3 1st round picks. but i trust the management. mas my alam sila kesa sa atin.

I have checked and am only relying on these several sites including Woj's, and everyone seems to be in agreement that the Lakers' max cap space is $32.5M.

Maybe you can provide a link indicating these sites are in error and the max cap space is indeed $34.74M as you concluded?

On the link you provided.... it's mentioned..

A cap hold for 120% of the "scale" amount for the team's unsigned first round draft pick(s). This amount begins to apply to team salary immediately upon selection in the draft4. This amount can be excluded from the team salary for the current season if, before the season starts, the team and player agree in writing that the team will not sign the player during that season.

You mentioned using 7M for the 4th pick.  That might be accurate then given the fact above.  So you have a difference of 1,1M right away that is unaccounted for.

Nahuli ko na din. That's a part of it. Also this:

Quote
There is a special procedure in place to phase-in a 45% increase to the rookie salary scales for the 2017-18 through 2019-20 seasons (15% per year over three years). There is a "baseline" scale for 2017-18 that does not include the 15% increase used for the actual 2017-18 rookie scale. For 2018-19 they first apply the percentage change in the salary cap from 2017-18 (as described above) to the 2017-18 baseline scale to create the 2018-19 baseline scale, and then they increase all resulting amounts by 30% to create the actual rookie scale. For 2019-20 they repeat the process, starting with the baseline scale for 2018-19, applying the cap percentage increase or decrease to create the 2019-20 baseline scale, and then applying a 45% increase to create the 2019-20 rookie scale.

So, para makuha yung cap hold ng 4th pick, ganito pala:

$3,688,400 (4th pick baseline salary for 2018) * 1.028 (cap increase from 2018 to 2019) * 1.07 (cap increase from 2019 to 2020) * 1.45 (due to the special procedure above) * 1.20 (because cap hold = 120% of the scale) = $7,059,340

So:

109M (cap space) - 66M (current cap hold) - 7M (4th pick) - 2.7M (empty roster slots) = 33.3M

Pwede pa din max FA ;D
