^ I think the second season of The Sandman should be a lock. Episode 6 ("The Sound of Her Wings") was the best.

Neil Gaiman's The Sandman has now debuted as the most-streamed series on Netflix, topping the charts so far in August. According to new numbers published by the streaming giant, the long-awaited first season was streamed for 69.48 million hours across the globe, putting it at the very top of the list of the most-streamed shows between August 1 and August 7.

The achievement becomes even more impressive when taking into account that The Sandman only launched on August 5, meaning it accrued almost 70 million hours in watch time over just two days.

‘The Sandman’ Renewed For Season 2

Netflix has greenlit a second season of Neil Gaiman‘s The Sandman.

The renewal confirmation follows an accidental leak on Wednesday by DC Comics’ official Twitter page. The since deleted tweet read, “The dream continues. [The Sandman] will return with new episodes based on multiple volumes of the Neil Gaiman graphic novel to explore even more stories of the Endless.”

It came after cancelation rumors started circulating on social media with Gaiman calling out a fake Twitter account.

Neil Gaiman Gives The Sandman Season 2 Update

It has already been over five months since Netflix officially announced The Sandman series’ Season 2 renewal, and now, series creator Neil Gaiman has finally revealed an update about the current pre-production progress of the upcoming second season.

In response to a fan’s question about the next installment on Tumblr, Gaiman confirmed that the scripts for The Sandman Season 2 have already been written. He also shared that they’re currently in the middle of casting for the first episode, while production designers are working on the set designs. Fans should expect to see more of Dream’s other siblings, including the fan-favorite Delirium.

The Sandman Season 2 Episode Titles Revealed

True to the show’s nature, details of the second season of The Sandman remain a mystery. However, while Season 2 is still in production, episode titles were revealed through director Jamie Childs’ CV, offering a glimpse at what to expect from the upcoming season of Netflix’s hit series.

According to What’s On Netflix, The Sandman Season 2 will consist of 12 episodes and will presumably premiere in two volumes. The outlet also shared the titles for six episodes in no particular order, which could be the episode titles for Volume 1.

I think the plan is to release Season 2 in 2025, but I hope the current sexual assault and abuse allegations against Neil Gaiman will not affect the continuation of this show. Other projects based on Gaiman's works (The Graveyard Book and Good Omens) have already been paused following the accusations. I am thinking Sandman will most likely follow suit or be cancelled entirely based on the outcome of the cases.

Sandman is Gaiman's most known work so I'm feeling a bit more skeptical that Season 2 might even be released. The optics of this for Netflix won't be good if the company pushes through while these allegations get more publicity. It will be a big challenge just to do the usual PR stuff associated with a show with this much hype and expectation while significant sexual abuse accusations are stewing in public.

I've read multiple reports (here's one of the most damning ones) and it is definitely not looking good for Neil Gaiman.
