‘Loki’ Director & EP Kate Herron Says She’s Not Returning For Season 2

Loki, Sylvie and He Who Remains’ variants will be coming back for Season 2 of Marvel’s Loki, but EP and director Kate Herron, who has been a force behind the project, says she will not be.

“I’m not returning,” the UK filmmaker told Deadline in an interview this morning. “I always planned to be just on for this, and to be honest, Season 2 wasn’t in the — that’s something that just came out, and I’m so excited. I’m really happy to watch it as a fan next season, but I just think I’m proud of what we did here and I’ve given it my all. I’m working on some other stuff yet to be announced.”

Will she be involved with another Marvel movie? “No, I’m just focused on my own stuff at the moment. I love Marvel and I’d love to work with them again, but my outing with Loki is what I’ve done with them.”

Disney+’s Loki Season 2 Sets Production Start Date

According to Backstage, production on the upcoming second season of Marvel Studios’ Loki series will start this summer at Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom. The filming start comes after a year since the 6-episode first season made its debut in Disney+.

It’s still unclear if head writer Michael Waldron will be returning for Loki Season 2, but director Kate Herron had previously confirmed that she won’t be coming back as she’s already working on her other projects.

Loki Season 2: Star Confirms Return to Disney+ MCU Series

In a recent interview with Good Morning America, Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Black Mirror, The Morning Show) has confirmed that she will be reprising her role as Ravonna Renslayer in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Loki Season 2. Fans last saw her character leaving the Time Variance Authority in search of “free will,” following a confrontation with Owen Wilson’s Mobius.

“So, so exciting. I know there is a Season 2. I know that I’m in it, and that’s about all I can say!” Mbatha-Raw said. “Well, I just love Renslayer. I’m so excited to explore her further, and I’m so happy that people are really looking forward to the next season.”

In the comics, Renslayer has a romantic connection with Marvel villain Kang the Conqueror, who is also set to debut in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The said villain is being portrayed by Lovecraft Country star Jonathan Majors, who previously appeared in Loki Season 1 finale as a variant of Kang the Conqueror called He Who Remains.

‘Loki’: Justin Benson And Aaron Moorhead Tapped As Season 2 Directors Of Marvel Series

Following a first season that saw strong reviews and record viewing numbers, Marvel is now getting the wheels in motion for a second season of its Disney+ series Loki. Deadline is hearing that Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have come on to co-direct a majority of the episodes for the upcoming season, which will see Tom Hiddleston returning to star.

Hiddleston and Michael Waldron, who wrote and served as showrunner in Season 1, will executive produce Season 2. Eric Martin is penning all six episodes.

While plot details are being kept under wraps for now, the news is significant as it marks the first show in the Marvel series lineup to get a second season; every other show that premiered in 2021 ran as a limited series.

Like the first season, season 2 is losing me again. The timey wimey aspects are really confusing. Pinaka simpleng time travel movie talaga is Back to the Future. Speaking of BTTF, nice homage from the last episode.
