Local TV channel setup using Android boxes via ISDBT
« on: Oct 15, 2019 at 12:11 PM »
Since most are considering cancelling local cable subscriptions like Cignal including myself, checking if anyone here was able to make this setup or similar one work with their android boxes? any tips?

This will be better than getting a TV Plus for the local channels.

https://www.facebook.com/183746264984259/posts/3035482366477287/

I am planning to get an Mi Box S then get the ISDB-T antenna thingy from Amazon (if i can't source one locally) so i can receive the local channels being broadcasted.

I think NBA Premium TV was the last straw for me. After it was taken out, i realized there was no significance in keeping my Cignal subscription anymore.

I wanna learn from your set up.
Parehas tayo with Cignal and NBA Premium. No NBA Premium = No to Cignal.
But I will just buy an ABS CBN TV box for local channels. I do have a ROKU stick (Globe) to watch my NBA League pass, Netflix, Hooq and YouTube.
But I wanna see your setup baka ok din.

Interested in this set up as well.

Was initially thinking about IPTV. Been following the sub-reddit but i believe it needs an IPTV box and providers are not consistent, same as with add-ons on Kodi.

I'll start with getting the Mi Box next week. I think ito pa din ang pinaka sulit and tested na Android box currently in the market.

there are several types of ISDB-T antenna being sold din. i'll read more about them and see if may ibang option other than what was posted dun sa FB link sa initial post ko.

dun sa isang comment, eto ang setup:

X96Mini TV box and works like a charm.
Isdbt dongle from lazada.
Micro USB to USB from CDR-King
X96 Mini from Shopee.
Tested working. Remote friendly din

This one ok ang reviews and will no longer require the micro USB to USB adapter:

how about inserting these USB ISDB-T decoders direct with the Sony Android TV's USB port... do we need to install any apps first?

and which local channels be available in Metro Manila?

yes, if the TV has built in ISDB tuner already then all you need is to connect a digital antenna and you should be good to go.

if i remember correctly may thread about that here somewhere.

I discovered two things:

The TV is ISDB ready, so I just bought an antenna and it was able to detect the digital channels.

may mga info din ako na-pick up from this thread (ignore the talks about NBA broadcast na lang  ;)):

First step taken. Already ordered by Mi Box S today.

Got this for 2,311 only. The 577 coins shop credit can be used to purchase other items. Planning to use it for a USB hub and remote silicon cover.

This thread is a good source of info as well:

A TV Plus Go sells for 799 these days, however, it only connects using micro-USB and I don't think it can do Full HD.

Still, this device might be worth a look.

Just to update. I got the setup to work just now and i am happy. I'll start off at the devices i purchased for the setup:

  • 1
Mi Box S - https://shopee.ph/product/87773654/6501038403 (got this for 2.3K as i received cashback via Shopee points worth 533)
  • 2
ME Air Mouse - https://shopee.ph/product/59709146/1526864953 (used the coins earned) a must as it makes navigating a lot easier
  • 3
3 Port USB Hub - https://shopee.ph/product/50707619/2128500126 (115 bucks. works like a charm) need it so both the PadTV and wireless dongle for the remote can be connected at the same time
  • 4
Micro USB adapter - https://shopee.ph/product/109764875/2004445135 - needed for the PadTV. bought 2 @ 55 each so i have a spare
  • 5
MyGica PadTV - https://www.lazada.com.ph/products/mygica-padtv-hd-tuner-black-i135064119-s151171129.html - got this for 999 from the last sale
[/list]

*Big thanks to Dazed for the recommendations/suggestions!

So i got the Mi Box and remote a month or so ago. Didn't have much time to tinker with it due to a busy schedule but i was able to set it up to my needs. had to wait a few weeks to order the PadTV tuner and the other devices came late as they were shipped from China,

Thought the MyGica i ordered was defective and one would really think so as i've tried it on several celfones and it just doesn't get detected. I was begging for the seller to just replace it but the seller is really not that accommodating. pushing back etc.

I actually received the dispute approval for the return earlier today and already processed it for drop off at LBC tomorrow.

The USB adapter came in just today and just out of curiosity, i plugged in the PadTV just to see what happens and lo and behold! the Mi Box detected it as soon as i turned it on!

went through the install process and scanned for channels (used the loop antenna initially) and was able to get 15 channels.

reception was poor indoors using the loop antenna so i switched to the small rabbit ear antenna the device came with and got 50 channels! of course not all of it is viewable and some are encrypted but i got the channels i needed. dalawa lang naman actually. GMA 7 and CNN HD for local news. the rest that i was able to get was ETC, some shopping channels etc.

All in all, i am happy and can finally bid adieu to my Cignal subscription.  ;D

Sorry i have no pics but i'll try to take some when i finish cable grooming.

Next step is to install Kodi then install The Crew add-on for live NBA games, UFC and other IPTV channels.

naka"channel blowout" sa Cignal until January 1 yata, after that ipa-disconnect ko na din.

I was finally able to try if my LG TV (SJ8500) that I bought 2 years+ ago is capable of receiving digital TV signals - it was working better than the TVPlus box ... using the antenna that came with the TVPlus, the picture quality was much better using the built-in tv tuner ... sayang yung TVPlus, di ko na pala kailangan, I should've just bought a Baron BRL antenna, would've been cheaper than the TVPlus and better reception

Just want to share also my setup..
I also terminate my subscription on cignal recently.
Dealbreaker is when no more nba premium..

So what i did is i bought abs tv plus for local channels,
Then i subscribe on nba league pass, netflix, amazon prime and hooq.
Im more than satisfy now on my viewing experience...
And instead of android box, i used apple tv.

placed this at the back of the TV on top of the sub. all cables hidden at the back as well for a clean setup.

I am getting everything i need with this setup and i love how versatile the Mi Box S is and i barely explored all its potential.

goodbye Cignal!  8)
