di daryl ong pala tinanggal sa ABS kasi nag voice out ng saloobin. haha. freedom of speech ipinaglalaban nila pero bakit ganun?

Freedom of expression or speech... pwede ko bang murahin sarili long tatay na nagpalaki sa akin?

Kahit naman siguro ako... kung ang sarili kong employee eh sinisiraan ang name ng company ko or making comments without consult8ng me and putting my company in disadvantage aba siguradong tanggal yan. Lalo na kung nakalagay specifically sa contract nila yan. :) :)
There is none righteous, no not one.

Naalala ko pa si Cory showing off her bed, which was 'part' of her libel case against Ka Louie .............. added to my belief that Cory wasn't as smart/competent as she appears to be.

Cory has one mission, to chase out the dictator and restore democratic institutions, and in that regard, she made good....

Cory had more power than marcos ever had, she had absolute power and can order the killing of the marcoses and that would have been legal...but the Christian in her prevented all of that and instead banished the marcoses to hawaii...

when Cory did not repudiate the behest loans of marcos, i think that was not smart..

Mukhang hindi malinaw sa iba ang ibig sabihin ng free speech. Pero parang sure na sure sila ano?

not sure about how things are running pero may nahagip ako sa news that the franchise or the frequency can't be leased for over 50 years, if that's the case why is gma celebrating it's 70th year on air?  ::)

ang sabi ni tangang marcoleta pinapayagan naman mag extend basta walang nilabag na batas. matindi paniniwala nya na hindi dapat i grant ang abs kasi marami foul.

afaik, franchise that cannot be extended pertains to franchises in water and electric utilities.. walang rival dapat sa area of coverage for 50 years para hindi ma sayang ang investment...

The DOJ itself under Guevarra said the 50 year rule is for ndividual franchises and can be renewed endlessly.  Not the duration wherein an entity can hold on to a franchise.

Marcoleta grasping at straws!   ;D

Oh kita mo husay talaga ng Supreme Court natin.

SC dismisses quo warranto case vs. ABS-CBN
Quote
“I was able to confirm with Chief Justice [Diosdado] Peralta that the Supreme Court dismissed today during their en banc meeting the quo warranto petition filed by the Solicitor General against ABS-CBN Corporation on the ground of mootness,” Hosaka said.

By dragging their feet, the SC simply let the case die a natural death.  More importantly they avoided insulting, SolGen Calida, Congress and most importantly Master Digong without much effort!

They failed however to settle the issue if the quo warranto is a valid case to revoke a franchise and if the Judiciary has the power to do the same.

well at least something good in a long while...

Quo warranto is a Calida invention, subsequent governments must pass a law to  clarify this...

House Committee denies ABS-CBN a new franchise

MANILA—Congressmen on Friday voted to reject a new broadcast franchise for ABS-CBN Corp., permanently shutting down a major part of the country’s largest media network, in what is seen as part of a worsening crackdown on press freedom under President Rodrigo Duterte.

Voting 70 to 11, the Committee on Legislative Franchises dashed ABS-CBN's hopes to resume operations under a new franchise, months after the president repeatedly threatened to pull the plug on the network over complaints of partisanship in the 2016 presidential elections.

===

ABS-CBN and its employees never had a chance. Asking these committee members to vote according to their conscience was futile.
We deserve better.

Nagulat ako sa vote disparity. 70-11? Hindi man lang pinaabot sa plenary.

EDIT: The 11 congressmen who voted "NO" to the denial of ABS-CBN's franchise:

1. Sol Aragones
2. Christopher de Venecia
3. Carlos Zarate
4. Gab Bordado
5. Vilma Santos
6. Lianda Bolilia
7. Ping Tejada
8. Benny Abante
9. Stella Quimbo
10. Mujiv Hataman
11. Edward Maceda

Grabe talaga:

Tuwang tuwa si Atom Araullo :)

I have mixed reactions to this decision. Im happy that abscbn is no more but feel sad for its talented people. Im glad that the big biased bosses are gone. Hopefully a big deep-pocket company will apply to take in and fill the vacated slot.
