I have always believed that MJ was forged by the Pistons. The ultimate version of MJ was when he learned to how to lead his team and not just scoring a bunch of points.  That version of MJ was birthed by the wars they had with Isiah and the Detroit Bad Boys.  Those playoff wars produced the ultimate player in MJ. 

Same din with Kobe.  The Threepeat Kobe was just a toddler. He had Shaq to do the heavy lifting.  The most potent version of Kobe was the 2010 - 2012....he was humbled by all the losses and struggles they had when Shaq left.  He was the best basketball player in the world at that time.

if ever today's star, superstars players face the 90's team like bulls & pistons, they won't have a long career specially the kind of game "no harm, no foul".. steph, klay, even lebron might retire earlier.. (due to injuries) the big mouth draymond will not last 1st qrt, i only see shaq might dominate inside plays but for 5 yr career only..    (my thoughts)

Mas may respeto mga players sa kapwa players today unlike before, i always believed that lbj used to play cautiously of not harming other players when going to the basket or dunking, kaya ma observe na almost libre sya mag dunk and of course nobody almost dare to go his way.  Pero in recent years makita mo rin ang kagaspangan ng laro nya haha.

I think it's more of the rule changes that brought about the lesser physicality of the game.  There's more cautiousness on fines and possibility of getting suspended or banned that the roughing up and physical plays of the past is gone.  As far as respect for others is concerned, it probably has to do with more players moving around different teams nowadays and players becoming familiar or friends with their former teamates.

As a fan it is probably better to watch the circa 80's-90's gameplay because besides the physicality of the game, there's more player loyalty to the teams.

As a player or someone who's playing basketball, you would love today's game rules. Nung kabataan ko, sa inter-barangay at mga pickup games grabe na balyahan, kahit magaling ka kung di malakas loob mo di ka tatagal sa basketball.

my thoughts exactly. yung tough guys nung 90's, eh in today's rules eh baka mawala tapang nya in fear of losing their jobs, either ma suspend or ma ban sila from playing in the NBA. kaya we can't say that the players today are soft, dalhin mo sila sa 90's and they will adapt din. and there was a time na because of all the fightings eh nag worry ang NBA sa image nila, lalo na yung time ng mga hiphop na may mga barilan pa and the Malice in the Palace did not help. thus, the NBA has to "clean" it's image, having rule changes. pati nga taunting eh dati ok lang, ngayon eh tumawa lang si Tim Duncan eh na technical foul pa hehe.
