OT: Team USA to Play 2023 FIBA World Cup Group Matches in Manila

TEAM USA will play its group stage assignments in the Philippines in an arrangement reached after the three co-hosts of the 2023 Fiba World Cup selected their preferred teams on Monday.

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has picked what is expected to be an all-star American team to fly to the country and play its group-stage matches in Manila venues for the global hoops expo in August next year.

It's a custom for the hosts of the final, in this case the Philippines, to be placed in Pot 1 where they will be joined by the best ranked teams for the groupings.

Team USA, though, will be in a different group than host Gilas Pilipinas as it is expected to bring an assembly of NBA players in a bid to improve on its seventh-place finish in the China World Cup back in 2019.

Japan picked world No. 7 Slovenia, bannered by Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic, to play its group games in Okinawa, while the third co-host Indonesia, chose a Canada team that is expected to be bannered by Andrew Wiggins.

Eto ‘yung prices for the “Follow My Team” Pass for the Gilas games. Divide by five na lang para sa ticket price per game. Di na lalayo dito ‘yung magiging prices once they start selling the rest of the tickets on a per-game basis. Baka mas mahal pa.

For Team USA, I’m expecting the younger NBA players to comprise their FIBA WC roster, like Tatum, Zion, Booker, Morant, Trae Young, Mitchell. Sa big men sila kulang.

I don't think they need another All Star caliber of a player. Just someone who can defend and shoot the lights out to spread out the defense. That will instantly elevate the game of AD and LBJ's inside game. It will also benefit the game of Lonnie Walker since he loves driving to the basket.

if you can see bojan' career, a proven shooter w/ high percentage @ 3pt shooting, that's what lakers need, affordable contact of 2 yrs. (& only 2 million dollar guarantee next season on his contract)

flawed kay pulangga, for the past few years, hindi lang sana 1 chip nakuha ni lebron kung inayos nya ang mga previous trades, sa itinagal ni lbj sa lakers, nasasayang talent nya, puro habol pa-star, bahala na palagi si lebron mag-adjust, puro crybaby nman nakukuha..

Caruso received an offer from CHI

Then the stupid trade of Pope and Kuzma to get RW
Then THT to UTA for an ageing Pat Bev.

I don't think the intent was to tear it down and rebuild, The intent was to really obtain a third superstar to carry the team in case AD or LBJ goes down for the count at any point in the season. Yun lang hindi nag work kasi bad fit.

We can speculate that LBJ had a hand on the trades. But that's all there is to it...speculation. Player and personnel movement is the job of a GM.

Yan ang mahirap talaga when a team obtains a level of success that warrants possible salary increases down the line for the players. Its a business first and foremost. The Warriors have been footing the bill to maintain the core of their team for the past 5 years but now it seems that they are about to do some belt tightening as well. May limit talaga in keeping the team intact vs the cost of doing so. At some point, if the numbers do not align anymore eh you have no choice but to let some players walk.

I saw the Team USA roster for the qualifiers in Feb 2023, I don't know anyone. Hopefully they add NBA players for the World Cup itself.

Yes of course. Historically maayos naman sila mag draft. Yun lang nga eh historically din eh napakababa ng mga picks nila palagi due to winning. After the Kobe-Pau-Odom-Bynum era eh dun sila nagkaroon ng sunod sunod na chance to draft good talent which they flipped for AD eventually. Talented players who are now starters in other teams like Lonzo, Russel, Randle, Kuzma, zubac and the jewel of them all....Brandon Ingram.

Its easy to say that they should build through drafting players but in reality eh pag low pick ka sa first round eh mababa na yung chance mo talaga na makakuha ng impact player unless may hindi nakikita yung ibang teams and they passed on a player like say a Derrick Fisher, Kyle Kuzma or a Ivaca zubac. Yang 3 na yan low pick yan pero tumagal sa NBA and major contributors while they are playing. That's a major reason why the Lakers like to bring in high priced Superstar talent thru free agency or trade. Matagal yung development ng youth movement and wala din kasiguruhan if it will pan out.

Kareem = thru trade (5 rings)
Shaq = thru trade (3 rings)
Gasol = thru trade (2 rings)
AD = thru trade (1 ring)

All of those resulted into instant success. 11 championships.

So I really don't think their formula or path towards winning is flawed. It can be argued that they like to accelerate the process by trading for proven players unlike say a PHI na 10 taon yata na puro high draft pero till now wala pa ring results yung TRUST THE PROCESS

It can also be argued that Kobe Bean Bryant wasn't technically drafted by the Lakers. He became a Laker via trade though he hasn't played a single professional game yet when the trade was done.
Vlade Divac was traded for Kobe Bryant.
