1. how do you attain proper matching of impedance between a tube preamp & a ss amp?

2. is foreplay (bottlehead) circuitry really that good? will it match properly with a 33k ohm ss amp i'm using now?

3. is there somebody willing to help me built my own tube rectified preamp?

1. look at the specifications, you will see the output impedance of the preamp, and look at the input impedance of the power amp. not only that, another important thing is input sensitivity of the power amp. if your power amp has enough sensitivity, say 1V for full output, then you DON'T NEED a preamp.

2. that is subjective. it IS GOOD but it depends on overall system synergy.

3. do you have electronics background? do you want to build it yourself or have somebody build it for you?

Is there a tube that produces a natural sound? Almost all tube preamps i've listened to is only for vocals/jazz music. Im planning to add a tube preamp on my ss integrated amp that will produce natural sound from rock/indie music.

its not really just with the tube but also in the design of the preamp

My tubes have crackling sound.  Are they microphonic?  They dont affect the sound output though.

You should at least have experience in soldering & understanding schematic diagrams, don't forget the tools. Because if you don't have any experience you might as well try some solidstate kits availabale for starters. Tubes runs on high voltage & might be expensive trial & error education. (IMHO)

What could be causing it? Bad tubes?  Medyo annoying kapag low level listening e.

Contemplating on getting a tube buffer but concern on the following :

1) Frequent switching on/off (eg. 2x/day), Does it affect the life span of the tube ?

2) Room Temp. - manufacturer  recommends keeping the unit always on, would it be ok even when airconditioning unit is off ? sayang kasi electrc. bill

3) Tube replacement - manufacturer claims tubes used are limited (milspec milusage mu-vista (6112) tube), Does any one knows of any replacement tube for these tubes ?

bruno, crackling sound is not microphonics

microphonics is produced when you tap on the tube itself or the chassis.

a crackling sound is random in nature, also present in some ss amps, it occurs in irregular manner, ie duration, frequency etc.

this is a sign that some components are producing noise and is amplified by succeeding stages.

what you can do is to short the grids starting just before the output tube by means of a 0.1cap then proceeding to the input stage until you find the offending stage. this is to be done by qualified personel as there are risks involved.
or simply replacing tubes can cure this problem!

dito nauso yung term na "pinalitan ng serviceman yung piyesa" because with tubes, this is very easy to do!
