Topic: My favorite vacuum tube: Type 245

Thru the years I’ve been down the road sampling a variety of tubes with each tube having their own distinct tone or flavor.  From 110 watts push pull monsters to a flea power 8 watts 300B Single Ended, I am now finally settled with my 2.5 watts globe type 245 from the 1930’s.    I find this power tube to be the sweetest out there.   The new “it” tube, type 10, may have more “Oooomph” in the low frequencies but the 245 beats it in midrange smoothness in my opinion.   (My buddy M’s Permalloy 245, Wavelength 45 with Cobalt OPT, JE Labs 45 with Hashimoto OPT).
