8)Check this web page for detailed infos on home theater systems: http://www.crutchfield.com/infolib/S-w8rVtQBWJP9/homeindex.asp  (the home theater guide - Acrobat File - is highly recommended - detailed home theater helps from systems to popcorn). Also, if you're looking for cheaper speakers with the Bose sound quality - Cambridge Soundworks is highly recommended (www.cambridgesoundworks.com). Consider their Home Ensemble III model. Receivers priced at P10~15000 (US$200) range - I found JVC-RX6010 competitive vs. Kenwood-VR505,Onkyo-TX8211,Sony STRDE475

Ok din ba yun Yamaha DSP-E492?

Imerb,

If I remember correctly, the DSP-E492 is a pre-amp/processor with 3 amplifier channels to drive the center and rears.  It's meant to be an add-on so stereo only amplifiers can be converted to a full HT.

I personally agree with the concept of the DSP-E492 as a pre-pro.  First, it's Yamaha inside so you get top-notch DPL/DD/DTS processing.  Plus, it allows you to retain decent stereo set-up.

What I'm not that comfortable in is the amplifier section.  It may work OK if you also have a Yamaha integrsted/pre and power amp for your front mains but I don't remember and such Yamaha stereo gear that I liked.

The other issue is system matching.  It's critical (though more so for speakers than for electronics) that the front array have the same sonic character.  I'm not sure how a Yamaha amplified center would sound when paired to a warmish NAD/Rotel/Harman Kardon integrated driving the mains.

The best is to try it out.  If you do, please share your experience with us.  Thanks.

Imerb,

How much are you willing to spend for the receiver?  I got a Yamaha RX-V393 at Raon for 11,000.  But that was almost two years ago.

The reason I mention "two years ago" is not so much as the price may have increased (These are old discontinued Yamaha models, so they should be more reasonably priced.), but rather they may have run out of stock.

Nevertheless, you might wanna try looking around there as they should have some units available.  I bought mine at a store named Ang Brothers.

BTW, the 393 is ProLogic only but has six channel inputs for decoder or DVD with decoder.  50W lang per front channels (including center) and 20 lang for the surrounds. If you want more juice, try hunting around for the 493 or the 592.

The nice thing is they all come in BLACK

Hope this helps  :)

To all HT "guru",
I presently own a DD rcvr with a 5.1 ch input, and I wish to  make it DTS compatible. Pls give me your suggestions if it would be economical to buy a new DVD player with on board dts decoder or should I buy a seperate decoder for this? ???

BROTHER HINDI NAMAN SA PINAPAGASTOS KITA BUT MY ADVICE IS TO GO FOR "SEPARATES", BALE IF EVER NA MAY BUDGET KA AY BUY A DTS PROCESSOR NA LANG AT MAPAPAKINABANGAN MO PA DIN YUNG PRESENT AMP MO.

AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE AY GO FOR "SEPARATES" IKA NGA AY INDIVIDUAL DUTY FOR EVERY COMPONENT.
KASI PAG ALL IN ONE AY BIHIRA YUNG NAIA-UPGRADE PA.

I WILL GIVE YOU AN EXAMPLE,
PAG MINI OR MIDI COMPONENT NASIRA ANG CD PLAYER AY PARANG TUNER OR TAPE PLAYER NA LANG SIYA LALO NA MAHAL PAGAWA NG LENS IF EVER NA LENS HA, UNLIKE KUNG SEPARATE COMPONENT YAN, MASIRA MAN ANG CD PLAYER MO AY PWEDE MONG PALITAN OR IPAGAWA DIN NG HINDI APEKTADO ANG IBANG UNIT AND STILL ENJOYING YOUR OTHER ORIGINAL SETUP BALE ISA LANG ANG DADALHIN MO SA SHOP HINDI TULAD PAG COMBO PAG NASIRA YUNG ISA, SIGURADONG LAHAT AY DADALHIN MO SA PAGAWAAN AT HALOS WALANG WAY FOR UPGRADING. HINDI KA NA MAKAPAKIKINIG SA BALITA MAN LANG KASI NGA LAHAT AY NASA PAGAWAAN.

ALSO YUNG TV NA MAY VHS AY GANUN DIN PAG NASIRA ANG ISA KAILANGAN MONG DALHIN LAHAT SA SHOP YUNG UNIT, E KUNG VHS LANG SANA ANG SIRA PWEDE KA PANG MANOOD NG TV WHILE YOUR VHS IS IN SERVICE OR KUNG YUNG TV NAMAN ANG NASIRA AY INSTALL ANG VHS SA OTHER TV NAMAN WHILE YOUR TV IS IN THE SHOP.

SA DECODER AY GANUN DIN IF YOUR PRESENT AMP STILL SOUNDS GOOD THEN YUNG DECODER LANG ANG UPGRADE MO HINDI TULAD PAG BUO NA SYANG AV RECEIVER PAG MAY LUMABAS NA BAGONG AUDIO FORMAT PALIT LAHAT NG AVR YAN KASI YOUR STRIVING FOR IMPROVEMENT DIBA?

MUCH BETTER DIN KUNG ANG AMPLIFIER AY INDEPENDENT PER CHANNEL FOR EXAMPLE KUNG ILANG CHANNEL ANG PROCESSOR OUTPUT AY YUN DIN ANG NUMBER OF YOUR MONO AMPLIFIERS.
PARA PAG NAGKAROON PA NG MGA HIGHER THAN 5.1, 6.1, 7.1 PA YAN AY DECODER NA LANG ANG PAPALITAN MO AND ADDITIONAL MONO AMP NA LANG ULIT.

BINGO!

Get a separate decoder.  Gives you more flexibility.

anybody here has comments on HT-in-a-box?  What are its pros and cons?  I've been looking at a unit the Kenwood HTB-504 at crutchfield and its very tempting to buy considering it has DPL2.  The good thing I surmise with this is that you have already matching speakers for the amp and you don't have to worry about making a mistake of buying non-timbre-matched speakers with your amp.  What gives???

The good ole bang for the buck:

1) Technics SH-AC300D MSRP of $300, but you should be able to find it for less, though.  The used market should be your best bet as this has been discontinued.  If you find one, let me know, I'm looking for one too.

2) Millenium 2.4.6 DTS.  $200 for the 220v version. See here http://www.5point1.com/millennium.htmlThey ship internationally.

Sorry, vacuum, I am not familiar with the Philippine market that much.  Nevertheless, I'll try a lookout for the Yamaha E800 just for you.  :)

bale mukhang center speaker lang siya pero kasama na pati controls doon at may mga ilang inputs din and remote control pa.
optical input para ma-enjoy ang dolbydigital sound.

available at all anson's emporium pero nakita ko siya sa pasay road and landmark branches.

if you want to buy there at ansons-landmark i can give referal so they can give you discounted price pa.

Vaccuumtubes-
I've seen one of those AIWA na mukhang center speaker but I didn't really bother to check it out.  The ones I've seen has only 70 watts max output.  Parang mahina.  But the ones I've seen dont come with a sub.   I still have some questions about this if you don't mind.  And I hope you could answer them.  Do you mean to say it could go without an amp?  And it only looks like a center speaker, how about the fronts and the surround?  If I have an existing amp would it still be of use maybe as a center speaker?  How many watts maximum output?
I have an existing Sony DPL receiver and Aiwa for front speakers,  Philips for surround speakers, US Audio center and a Dai-Ichi Sub.  Kind of a chop-chop set-up just to have one.   :P I was planning to buy sana in the States the Kenwood HT in a box (DD,DTS,DPL2) so I could have maybe a better receiver with matching speakers already.  With the introduction of the center speaker that you were telling, maybe that would go hand in hand with my Aiwa front speakers para at least uniform ang tunog.  It gave me some thought.  With regards to the upgrade of my receiver I would maybe buy a Denon 1802 or an Onkyo 595 with DPL 2 in the States and retain my speakers and just match the center Aiwa (junk the US Audio). OR....maybe just buy the Kenwood HT in a box to change the whole set-up.  Can you help me in this? Thanks in advance!  ;)

NIRVBLAKR,

bye for now and see you at the 29th and sana wag bumagyo!

Thanks vax you really helped me and I saw some other brands in the net that sell the same set-up like KLH, etc.  The best thing maybe to satisfy my query is to see for myself the performance.  I'll keep you posted my findings.
By the way, regarding the meeting at Brash Young Cinema, can't make it pre.  Enjoy nalang kayo and I know you guys will! Cheers!  8)

Check out the latest Home Theater in a Box from SONY and Pioneer ...

* SONY DAVC700 (5 dvd changer, multi-region, AUTO/PAL/NTSC, SACD 2ch/multi, DVD/SACD/CD/CD-R/CD-RW, and built-in AC3/DTS decoder).

* Pioneer HTZ-77DV (multi-region, AUTO/PAL/NTSC, DVD/SVCD/CD/CD-R/CD-RW/MP3, and built-in AC3/DTS decoder).

I've tested both,  Audio/Video qualities not bad ...

ED,
I am also interested with the Denon 1602 or the 1802 whichever my budget permits.  Hope you could post the prices so I know how much I could stretch my buck. Thanks! 8)
