I would go for a Sony STR-DB780. Its a nice receiver if youre new into home theater. A entry level receiver. And it got all the things you want. And nice price too. I got one.

^ pero sony receivers are known for their bad amplifers eh. It does the job for cheaper speakers. pero if you got more mid end speakers.. sony receivers just won't cut it..

Unless ofcourse SONY-ES.. now that's a different story. They are acctually at par/ slightly superior than Denons or Marantz's similarly priced receivers.

ES line is their 'high end' line. better build, better parts, etc.

dude, Denon 1604 5.1 channel lang output. Kung gusto mo bang for the buck try mo Onkyo SR501 or SR601 with 6.1 channel output at may Zone 2 feature. According to Onkyo owner's very warm ang output. Though the Yamaha's are really superb sa HT pag dating sa Audio medyo bright sya. Onkyo receivers are well balanced.

Just my 2 cents. BTW I own a Onkyo SR 601

Nice guessing game.  If anyone can name the brand and model, he wins it???

Let me see.  Hmmm... doesn't read like any NAD receiver, much less an Rotel.  It has high THDs much like a Pioneer I know, but you don't carry Pioneers.  It is rated at 6 ohms much like an Onkyo, but you don't carry Onkyo.  So it must be a .... Sherwood... which you carry.  A Sherwood R-945!!!  Yeah I won I won!!!!

What are you more interested in, home theater or music? The a/v receivers that excel in HT applications are yamaha and denon.  I would recommend the Harman Kardon receivers like the older models like the 2550, 3550, or the newer models like HK 130 since they are "warm" sounding and very musical, which is useful if you are planning on listening to CDs, SACDs, DVD-As, or even using it to listen to concert DVDs.

Another factor that would determine which a/v receiver that you would get is your speakers. What brand and type (floorstanding or bookshelf) are your main/front speakers or which brands or types do you intend to get? It is important that your speaker matches with your receiver.

For more details about Harman Kardon receivers or denon, you may contact Nico or Epoy of Architectural Audio at 811-6715. They are located in New World Hotel. And I did not get any comission(s) for recommending them.  ;D

Harman Kardon is definitely very good but the 130, 2550, 3550 are 5.1
the only model of Harman that is 6.1 is 230 about 27T
for the denon it will be 1604 that will fit your budget the silver is 1T difference than the gold and be careful of other unauthorize dealers that sells at a cheaper price
if you want you can try visit spectra @ parksquare 1 and look for jim
you can learn a lot from him and the best price

With your budget, i think it is best to settle for a 5.1 receiver right now.  There is no point in investing heavily on electronics since a good set of front speakers will most certainly outlast your receiver in the long term. The pace at which they introduce new receivers is akin to personal computers. I think what you should do is try to invest in a good set of speakers and center. Don't rush in getting the surrounds or the subwoofer since, in the end due to mounting cost, you just might end compromising the quality of your front speakers which are the most important of them all.

Why get a 5.1 receiver over 6.1? Well i'm part of the camp that subscribes to the theory that materials encoded in 6.1 (ie. Dolby Digital EX, or DTS ES) sound much better on a 7.1 setup. So if it was in my case, i would either get a receiver with the 5.1 or 7.1 . In your case 5.1 is the best route to take.

i agree. the marantz 5400 is a very capable receiver. i read a review once comparing it with 3 other entry level receivers and it was the only one that was able to churn out its rated power even when driving 5 channels simultaneously while maintaining low thd.

by the way, if your planning to get diamonds, then denons are not for you. if youre bent on getting diamonds, yamahas or harmans are better matches. not sure of the marantz-diamonds combo. denons are great with missions and b&ws.

if i had a 24k budget for a receiver, i would save a bit more and get a hk230 :)

As a newbie, I suggests you go for entry level amps pero at least 6.1 na.  Here are the choices accdg to my preferences:
1).  Yamaha RX-V450 or RX-V440 (best for movies)
2).  Marantz SR4400  (best for music)
3).  Onkyo SR-501 (average on both movies and music)

These amps are good to start with and determine your true audio preferences.  Atsaka,  pag nag-upgrade(which is likely to happen)  ka into higher models or may magustuhan kang iba later on, di ka masyadong napagastos sa una mong setup.

the denon at parksquare  is 18990 based on cash price
definitely yamaha is best for movies
then denon and harman kardon is for movies and audio, but the difference between the two is that harman kardon is designed high current and it is very powerful

If you can save more for better quality AVR to avoid any upgrade after awhile. AVR or Processor is most important component in HT or Audio set-up. It's the heart and brain of your system, even if you got expensive speakers but your processing unit is below it's category, you are missing something in your set-up.  ;D  ;D
