Buffy The Vampire Slayer
« on: Jun 13, 2002 at 12:40 PM »
Calling all fans of BtVS, here's our thread.

I started watching this excellent excellent show when my then unemployed sister forced me to watch one episode. Since then, I got hooked. I like the effects and the action scenes. I'd occasionally catch the gang's repartee but I was in it mainly for the visuals (Sarah Michelle Gellar!). It's only now that I get to appreciate the mythology and story line (heck I'm even beginning to like Angel, the Series), thanks to the pinoyslayers discussion group. This thread is actually dedicated to them.

Fans, shippers, critics and casual viewers may discuss everything Buffy. For those spoilery stuff you might want to include SPOILER tags or warnings.

Hi Holly Golighty!

There's a Marketplace Forum. You can ask around there. I think there was once an R2 Buffy for sale by agwe23.

Hello! Mark here!

I want to buy the S3 R2 DVDs too! Lalo na nung nalaman ko na widescreen ang Buffy S4! Kaso, it's a bit too expensive, about 70+ pounds sa Amazon.co.uk!!! I'm just relying on my allowance, for pete's sake!  ::)

Good thing I won on that BPI Express Advice contest on Studio 23 and now I'm one of the proud owner of Season 2 DVDs!

Since utoy shared his Buffy story, I would like to share mine too!  ;D

I'm just channel surfing one Sunday night and some strange forces caused my remote to malfunction exactly on RPN. I saw Spike in vamp-face and I'm a huge fan of horror movies so I decided to check it out (the episode shown then was School Hard). Then I saw SMG and I instantly have a crush on her (I'm about 13 back then). Again, like utoy, I'm just tuning in for the Special Effects and the action and after a couple of episodes more, I became a huge fan. Heck, Buffy is the first english series I watched.  ;)

I recall the very first episode that i watched was an episode in the first season where xander was possessed by these hyenas while on a field trip (i can't recall the title... maybe someone can help me...)...  I was in front of the TV doing my homework (buffy was being aired at ch. 9 on sundays at 7pm during that time), and the show came on.  I remember thinking, "a TV show based on a theatrical flop?  what the crap is this?"  But, being the lazy guy that i am, i didn't reach for the remote to change the channel and left it on.  And I remembered having a good time watching the episode.  I didn't even get to finish my homework while the show was on.  The show was a great mix of horror, drama, and comedy.  After watching that single episode, Buffy instantly became Must See TV for me...  :)

For me, the best season is still the second season, although i also love the first and third seasons.  the fourth and fifth seasons i found to be a bit uneven (although i loved the episodes "The Gift" and "The Body").  I have yet to see more than one episode from the sixth season, but I LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED "Once More With Feeling" (The musical)...  Can't wait to get that episode on DVD...  :)

I have yet to see more than one episode from the sixth season, but I LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED "Once More With Feeling" (The musical)...  Can't wait to get that episode on DVD...  :)

As a BUFFY addict, I must say that there were only TWO good episodes in the entire sixth season, "Once More With Feeling" (which they gave away as a free DVD in Daily Variety "For Emmy Consideration" about 2 weeks ago) and the episode immediately after that, "Tabula Rasa", which is the funniest episode of all time. The rest of the season is just too dark and disturbing, and is missing that comic edge that makes the show what it is. Even the producers admit that, and have decided to lighten the tone again for season 7.

The only other good thing about season 6 are the numerous near pornographic love scenes between Buffy and Spike. They really push the envelope to the edge - their scenes are similar to but even hotter than 9 1/2 Weeks, which in its time got an R Rating for theaters.

My first episode was "Lie To Me", and the subtlety of that episode (each character tells a small lie, the consequences of which fuel the entire episode) hooked me. I completely didn't see the twist of why Ford wanted to be a vampire. It was a very powerful episode.

When RPN 9 took forever to get Season 4 (I think they showed Season 3 maybe 3 1/2 times!), I actually got Season 4 on PAL VHS from Amazon UK. Now that I have the DVDs of Seasons 1-4, that's just another duplicate sitting on my shelf gathering dust.

It's a very costly addiction in my book!

In Buffy news, Sarah Michelle Gellar recently announced that she will not be providing the voice of Buffy for the new animated series.

See? You should never get me started on BUFFY talk. Just be thankful acidburn is busy right now, or you'd be getting a lot more... hehehe...  ;)

Hey markas and kings5504! Nice to see you guys here.  :) I see, Buffy was part of your coming-of-age. He he.

Can anyone handle kings5504's query regarding the hyena xander ep? Cause I'm a bit out of touch with ep titles.

Hey NY152! You too?! Hehe. Can't say the same thing cause I'm only up to what Studio 23 is showing. Glad I got you started on Buffy talk. I know you want to.  ;D

Speaking of Tabula Rasa, that's the name of the Official Pinoyslayer Message Board.

Hey utoy! Making my entrance here. Thanks for creating this thread.

To share how I discovered Buffy...

I was in college. RPN was airing it on Sundays then, and a friend said "Watch it, it's funny." It was season 1, I think "The Puppet Show," and I did find the show hilarious. I stuck by it, despite not having an episode guide and not knowing the proper sequence of episodes.

I fixed that problem come season 2, when I had an episode guide all ready. I made notes about episodes I didn't dare miss. And then from there the "funny" show revealed to me how romantic and painful it could be. Good thing I was in it for more than the funny, and I was hooked.

By the time Jenny Calendar died, I was investing precious time and money into this obsession. Magazines. VCR and VHS tapes. Downloading the music featured on the show.

Now I'm no longer in college and I'm still watching this show I love, except it's now split into two shows that I love sometimes equally. That means twice as much VHS tapes and magazines and music and rm/divx episodes and eventually, DVDs.

Gah.

Question for you people:

SPOILERish. Highlight to read:

Today on SCI FI Wire, when asked if Tara would be back next season due to fan demand, Joss Whedon replied:

"Tara will not be back. But Amber will."

Anyone know what he meant? Any speculations? Evil twin? Alternate Reality?

My (totally unspoiled) guess? Amber will be directing an episode. Tara will stay dead. Spike will be more naked. Bwahahahaha.

Welcome to PinoyDVD Carol !

And next season, Britney Spears will appear in Buffy. I think Joss Whedon has lost his mind.

By the way, the musical season opener last fall was the best ever. I'm not a Buffy fan, but considering Joss did all the music and lyrics writing, that just shows how talented he is.... until the Britney fiasco.

Are you sure, K? I remember she was supposed to be in Season 5 as Warren's girlfriend but the scheduling couldn't be worked out... They finally found her a new role?

I read it in a magazine sometime ago.  Apparently, she's not so hot anymore and have so many gaps between her schedule due to cancelled concerts so she can spare some time shooting an episode. No job, no boyfriend, no talent ... and yet I can't seem to feel pity for this horrible girl.  She's the only one from the Mickey Mouse Club that grew up not developing any talent.

From what I remember, it will just be a guest stint, not as a regular cast. I don't know what role she will be playing ... but I do hope Buffy kick her right in the face !!!!

mwa ha ha ha ha. thanks for making me laugh so hard.

anyway, i heard the role will be recurring for about 6 episodes.  :P  joss whedon has been smoking a lot of crack lately. I think it's to get more pre pubescent boys to watch specially since they don't have anymore of the girl on girl action to reel them in. ::) still, it's all just rumors though.

sana si mandy moore na lang ang guest. mwa ha ha ha   ;D

Well, siguro naman she's managed to save a lot more money for her future as compared to say, Tiffany or Debbie (Call me Deborah) Gibson.

True, she's set for life ... but neither Tiffany nor Debbie made two made back to back number 1 albums with one of them selling at least 11 million copies in the US alone.  Both can sing better though .. and Debbie even wrote her own songs (music and lyrics) and produced her albums. Debbie was on the Broadway musical Beauty and the Beast, that counts a lot. And I'm sure with Britney's looks, she will never have a hard time finding someone more attractive than Justin.

Still, the demise of Buffy, the TV series I think will be attributed to Britney's guest stint.

And I actually owned Tiffany and Debbie Gibson cassette tapes back in the day. </shame>

I'm not sure about the Britney guest appearance, though. I keep waiting for the news to appear on eonline, ew.com, or tvguide (because this is the kind of thing they'd announce, yes?) but no big headline yet.

Re the DVDs though... they should have put in commentary for "Passion" and "Becoming"! And "Reptile Boy" isn't even one of Greenwalt's finest.  :)

Hey, I still have my Debbie tapes and I feel no shame.  I don't think we ought to regret the music choices we made in the past, unless they have completely ruined our taste forever.  So, chin up, girl!

I used to watch the show sporadically during it's first four seasons - only on its fifth did I begin watching it regularly.

Of the few episodes I saw in the first four seasons, the ones that I distinctly remember are "Becoming, part 2" (damn, that one was great), "Hush" (creepy!) and "Homecoming".

The fifth season (which I watch both in Channel 23 and Star World) is a good one for me. The introduction of Dawn and Glory are intriguing, and the hidden love of Spike is a big surprise. I can't wait for the season finale!

I'm planning on getting the first two seasons in DVD but where can I get the other seasons? Some of you guys already have 'em but Amazon.com only has the first two.

"Family"
written and directed by Joss Whedon

It's Tara's birthday and her family has come to Sunnydale to visit, but they're the last people she wants to see. Feeling trapped, she resorts to magic and goes to great lengths to keep her new friends from finding out about her past, and her destiny.

<preview above might sound like a totally different episode from the trailer you see on Studio 23>

Anyone who can provide me info on the buffy book titles i posted last week??

by the way, finished the story The Unseen trilogy and it was a reunion of sorts for Buffy, Angel and Faith (yeah, Riley helped her escape).    Fun but way too long for one story.

I think you can get Powerbooks to import the books you're looking for. This I just read from a thread in the pinoyslayer yahoogroups (pimpage much? ;D). Or order it directly from Amazon. Or maybe PARC can help get it for you.
