i already have this firmware but thanks for posting anyway.  as i've reported on my previous post, the problem does not occur only on my LG burner but also on an officemate's BenQ.  i'm quite hesitant to spend on this media as i've already wasted a few.

I'm new on burning or making of backup on my original dvd movies. Can you please provide me a dvd-r that I can use, if possible the cheaper ones with good quality. Can you put a review on the Etop -R(yellow) and +R(red) as well.
Thanks!

anyone having problems with CDR-King's Taiyo Yuden DVD-R (Premium, Silver and Azul)? I had problems before with the Premium (i think they are the fake TY DVD-R) DVD-R (video was getting glitches and refuse to play properly but when used on other brands like the Nanya, it played fine)

Now CDR has these AZUL brand (Taiyo Yuden also) and was wondering if it was any good.

Btw, also Nanya DVD-/+R, any comments?

What reliable DVD-R brand in the 8 - 20 peso category is widely available in CD-R King right now? Plan ko kasing bumili ng isang spindle. Are the the gold DVD-Rs back on stock?

Bought some Fortis DVD-Rs to try out. Burned okay at 4X and it plays fine on my Pioneer players. Nero CD-DVD Speed curve isn't as smooth as the eTop and Top DVD-Rs though. And disc verification is pretty slow compared to other media.

I was surprised that my Pioneer A07XL had the Nanya +/- discs explicitly listed in its latest firmware database so I bought some discs to try out:

  • 4X DVD-R (Media Code: NANYA-JC001).These are the gold discs. I looked up the media code online and this series got very poor ratings from some users particularly those with NEC players. On the Pio however, the results at 4X were extremely good. On Nero CD/DVD speed, read rate started 3.8X and smoothly went up to 8X with no unusual spikes.
  • 8X DVD+R (Media Code: NANYA-CLX-00).These are the white discs with the small RW logo on the right side. I've finished a couple of test burns and verified that you need to upgrade your firmware to v1.22 to take full advantage of this media. Lower version fw (with the 8X all media hack installed) results in erratic burns and the inability to properly verify the discs. Using v1.22 (official not hacked), the drive recognized the 8X media natively and I was able to burn at a steady 8X rate. Nero CD/DVD Speed again drew a very smooth curve from 3.5X to 8.2/8.3X -- excellent!

If you own a Pioneer writer with the latest firmware installed, the Nanyas are a great deal IMHO. Of course I'll have to verify the discs again in 3 months... but so far, so good.

CDR King has this brand:  Azul  8x DVD-R.   it's media is TYG02 (Taiyo Yuden).   P14/each. probably an imitation.  i have not tried burning on it since i don't know what data to sacrifice to it. =)

I have Azuls that I bought directly from Taiwan. They're made by Fornex, manufacturer of the infamous Fornex 101s and the better-than-expected initial batch of "Premium" DVD-Rs (DKMZ01 media code). The Azuls are decent but they do use the same media code as the TYG02 discs but they're obviously not genuine TYG02s. In other words, your DVD writer will default to the internal TY write strategy in your firmware when using the Azuls -- which is intentional imho. Whether that's a good thing or bad thing is something that I haven't figured out yet.

Still, I have yet to burn a coaster with the Azul brand on my Pio A07 so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Btw, the orange eTop DVD-Rs also carry the DKMZ01 media code so they're probably made by Fornex as well.

Got 10 pieces of PHILIPS DVD-r for 25 each yesterday from CDR-King because accordingly, these are the better quality discs in the market compared with the other cheaper brands. And truly i also noticed that its really better than the previous brands i have tested.

I am just ondering what happened to this PHILIP DVD-r now, because they could no longer be read by my toshiba 5372 DVD writer  --  ??? Sampo pa naman kinuha ko kahapon and i dont know what to say to the salesgirl in CDR King when i will return this later this pm.  :-\  maibabalik pa kaya ito?
