Picked-up Nemo this afternoon and saw the complete S1 of West Wing in VCD version.  No sign of the DVD yet.

I already have the R2, but I checked out the R3 at Astro earlier this evening.

The packaging and listed features are 100% identical to the R1. Hard to believe the title's being sold for only Php 1500!

I hope it sells well enough for them to release subsequent seasons here - remember what happened with Sopranos where the failure of the R3 Season One boxed set caused them not to release the other seasons locally?

But anyway, I'll put off that Season 2 R2 purchase I was planning, since it's literally 3-4x more expensive, and just keep my fingers crossed... for now...

Got my copy of West Wing a couple of nights ago. As Mr. Hankey pointed out, packaging is identical to the R1. The entire season plus extras is contained on 4 DVD-18 discs. Looks like the same video transfer was used as well. Strangely, only English, Korean, and Chinese subtitles are included which makes me think that this isn't a general Asian release. Did the R1 or R2 versions have a booklet insert? This one doesn't although I really can't complain. At P1500, this is the cheapest 24 episode TV season collection  I've ever come across.

The R2 didn't have one, but it's completely different from the R1/R3 version of the title - it's a 6 (DVD-9) disc set released over a year ago, with a different set of special features altogether.

Just got my copy of the R3 version from Astro. Only complaint so far is that the R3 version does not seem to contain the 5 audio commentaries that form part of the R1 version. I find audio commentaries useful (am an insomniac), and according to the reviews of the R1 version, these particular West Wing audio commentaries were particularly informative. But other than that, worth the relatively cheap price (1,500 for 24 hours of footage)

On closer inspection of the R1 and R3 boxes today, that's the obvious difference pala. The R1 lists the commentaries among the special features, while the R3 doesn't.

I am glad that Warner actually did the feature list correctly this time, and removed box listings for missing disc features. They've been a bit careless about this with recent titles (Robin Hood, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, etc.).

I just got my copy last night and was mad that there was no booklet/insert. Apparently this is true for all copies (after reading the above posts).

I was expecting a booklet since there is a compartment for it and the packaging does not have an episode/chapter listing.

I wonder if this a production error or if the booklet was omitted as part of a way of bring the cost down to P1,500.00?

Perhaps we can email Warner Home Video? Any of you know of an email address?

Verified with Warner regarding the booklet -- it's not a fluke. The version that's being sold here doesn't really come with one. Given the limited number of copies they were bringing in, additional production for a booklet would've added to the cost. Unfortunately, the West Wing box isn't formatted like the Friends sets  which integrate information elements into the packaging flaps.

Thanks Firewired for checking on our behalf. I can't really complain since its a great set at a great price. My compliments to Warner for pricing for the local market.

Just saw the local VCD release of Season 2 at Astro podium.

I wonder if they'll release an R3 DVD version before the R1 set comes out.

I was tempted to buy the VCD since season 1 ended with a major cliffhanger. But at six volumes selling for P250 each, the total cost (P1,500) would equal the price of the R3 season 1 DVD set! Guess i'll have to wait.

According to Warner's schedule, the R3 release is in June which is about a month behind the R1 version. S2 will be sold as a box set although the discs will come in Amaray-style cases instead of the digi-pack format of S1.

Just got into the series. Does the set still cost 1900? Anyone seen a copy recently? They don't seem to have it in Astro Podium and Megamall anymore.

S1 has been out of stock for several months. I'll verify if new copies are arriving with S2.

For those desperately waiting for S2 (like me), Warner said that a packaging problem in Taiwan delayed the shipment unexpectedly. They're still hopeful that the sets will arrive before the end of June.

Thanks firewired! Hmm... Maybe that's a sign telling me I shouldn't buy the set. TV series DVDs are such an expensive investment. But it's such a great show! Dilemma dilemma dilemma

TV series DVDs may be expensive, but imho, they are the best investment in the DVD lot ("bang for your buck"-wise). just so as long as you choose the right titles.

the 24 boxed sets probably best illustrate my point. the gratification of watching the episodes in instant succession without commercials is definitely immeasurable!  ;)

not to downplay the West Wing series, which is also very much enjoyable on DVD.  :)

That's true. My problem is I don't seem to have enough of an attention span to watch a whole series on DVD til the end :). I end up losing interest in most cases, resulting in me selling the DVDs at a loss.

Okay, talked to Warner. They'll look into bringing in more copies of Season 1.

West Wing - The Complete 2nd Season is due any day now. Retail price is now P2,350.
