Thoroughly enjoyed this R1 Platinum edition, one of the few.  The soundtrack is gorgeous, especially the special home theater mix, the surrounds are very active.  Looks like they mastered those channels with greater range like DTS, even on DD,  as you can feel the bass from behind.  A great showcase DVD.

Just bought one last saturday from the Video City Stall (inside Glorietta, near QP), I asked for a discount and guess what, they gave me a 5% discount plus an ice age gift pack (bonnet, t-shirt and pillow).  ;D

This has been re-released locally. Surprised since this is one of the titles that Disney has returned to the vault and not scheduled for release for a few more years...

Is it possible that Viva has its own master copy and have the resources to print copies at will?

No, Viva does not press Disney and Fox titles locally. Those discs are imported, the jackets are local, though.

When Disney titles go "on moratorium," that usually just refers to their distribution in the United States. Pinocchio was long on moratorium already (since its 2000 "Gold Edition" R1 release) when it was released on R2 and R3 in a Lowry-remastered "Special Edition" in 2003.

I gotta have this
299.  Also re-issued - Lion King 1 1/2 (relabeled as 3) and Lion King 2: Simba's Pride.  Also 299 each.   And in a boxset for all three -1200 pesos.

But most of the times, it's global.  And you wouldn't expect it to be reissued in a third-world country like ours.  Or maybe, it is because we are a third-world country that Disney didn't enforce it...or was it issued without Disney knowing it...

is this a double disc as well, same as the R1 platinum edition? i've been looking for a copy of this for the longest time. i'd prefer the R1 version but this would do.  :D  any feedback will be greatly appreciated. TIA!  ;)

Yes, it's two-discs.  At that price and given that it's OOP virtually everywhere except the Philippines, it's a steal...

None, unless you opt for the boxset trilogy where you are paying 303 pesos for the cardboard box alone. (1,200 - 897).

If they still import their discs, there's no way the parent company doesn't know about it. Unless they've started pressing Disney discs locally?

Firewired, any official word from Viva if they're already pressing any Fox/Disney titles locally?

But yeah, you really don't expect to see a "special" title that's out of print in the States to be available here. I remembered Pinocchio since I was looking to order it online, and saw it was on moratorium. I was so surprised to see the "special edition" on sale here a few months after I tried to buy the R1, and to see that the R3 had new features not available on the out-of-print R1 release.

thanks sir! i'd keep away from the trilogy since i already have R1 lion king 1 1/2. wont spend that much either for a cardboard box.  :D

by the way, its quite weird, saw these titles at astro SM bicutan and its priced at P350@...  ???

That would depend on whether their copyright agreement with Disney is a per title basis or per piece basis.  If it's a per title basis, then Viva could replicate these with their foreign disc replicator partner without Disney knowing about this.  But if it's a per disc basis then Viva will have to report the number sold and Disney will know, unless they report it as a lumpsum...

BTW, the disc look imported, similar to previous R3 Disney titles with the Disney logo in the inner rim...

With the scarcity of this in stores, my current guess is: it's leftover stock of the old release they found in their warehouse. Could've been repackaged if there's anything new different about the packaging from the old release.

as mentioned by sir ashburndaride, there are copies of this including lion king 2 and 3 at the viva booth near the glorietta 4 cinemas. its priced P450, buy 1 take 1. so, its just coming out as P225@. so, this is really a steal for an OOP title.  :o  just bought lion king 1 and 2 last saturday.  ;)
