The Office (BBC/NBC versions)
« on: Aug 25, 2004 at 06:40 PM »
The ads are out, coming soon on StarWorld!

BBCs acclaimed comedy series that kicked the collective @sses of "Sex and the City" and "Monk" and "Arrested Development" and "Will and Grace" by winning the Golden Globe Best Comedy and Best Actor in a Comedy awards early this year, "The Office" is finally here.

Only 12 episodes long in its entirety, plus two Christmas episodes, this series may be short but stands unequaled in terms of its impact on TV Comedy.  Soon on StarWorld!!! Will post details as they come!

Arrright Wernham Hogg!!!

Story and format wise, The Office can kick Curb Your Enthusiasm's behind. Although, Curb is also another hilarious show (wonder why it's never aired here?). Dawn and Tim - story of my life...well, at least 1/4 of it. ;D

Nah, disagree with you there. Larry David's humor is so much more my type than Ricky Gervais'. Besides, I see Ricky and get too depressed, since...

...I can relate too much...

I thought season 2 was funnier than season 1. Season 1 is still great but it was all over the place at times and the team hadn't really gelled.

More than the humor, I really heart The Office more for the really poignant love story at its core.

Just wait till the Christmas Specials.  ;) I hope StarWorld airs them too.

Sked's out:  Saturdays at 10:30 pm, replays Sundays 3:00 am. Starting September 4th.

Dang, kasabay ng SATC. Guess I'll have to catch that one on Tuesdays.

my wife would agree with you regarding that...  although she admits that THE OFFICE is really funny, she can't stand to complete watching one episode because ricky g reminds her so much of her old boss!  ;D

Intense intense love for this show. Waxed rhapsodic about it long ago somewhere else in this forum, and am really glad its to be on Star World this weekend.

Just one worry though. If I recollect correctly, each episode is actually around 35 minutes long. Since Star World is showing it in a thirty minute block (10:30-11:00, I think), it seems that there will be major cuts in the episodes. There are a lot of "atmosphere" shots (shots of mundane office behavior that do not advance plot points), so I guess those would go, but still a shame if there are cuts.

Oh crap.

You GOT the "mah na mah na" reference?

That means Star World is NOT showing The Office in the correct order. That's the pilot episode of Season Two.  >:(

'Di ba yung "mah na mah na" season two, episode one, before the opening credits? May earlier "mah na mah na" ba?

LOL... ya got me there. i liked it so much that i immediately scoured the 'net and bumped into a discussion board and a few blogs about season 2's premiere episode. (how do you think i dug up such a "forgotten" pic like the one i posted above... he he he.  ::))

i always did wonder why you put that reference in your previous post... akala ko noon dahil favorite song mo lang 'yun but NOW, i finally get it... (because i read about it and not because i saw the "mahna mahna" perf last saturday. *sigh!*... i probably should've been more explicit when i said that. sorry po!  :P)

ayun tuloy... may spoiler na for season 2! ... not that a show like this can have spoilers. LOL.  :-X

The "manah manah" was being shown as a trailer these past few days, that's why I think it was brought up here.  There was no manah manah last Saturday.  Besides the Sesame Street reference, is there something else we should "get" from manah manah?  I always thought the fact that it came from Sesame Street was nothing special, just a given -- just like the way the wazzuup came from the Bud commercial.  Shows how ancient I am.   ;D

one of the funnier moments was when he told someone to use petty cash to replace the batteries for the talking fish... because ya "can't put a price on comedy"... ha ha ha.

and the stapler in the jell-o... priceless!

hey! it just occured to me... is tim the guy from "love actually"? ya know ... the nude body double/stand-in?  ???

part of the discussion was focused on how the term "muppet/moppet" was used after the mahna mahna performance... people were debating if it was referring to the actual muppets (kermit, miss piggy, etc. etc.) or if it was being used as a slang term (sa british kasi "moppet"=idiot) to tim & the rest of the guys.

quite an inane discussion really...  ::)

...  i haven't been lucky enough to see that promo.  >:( ... but because they already put it in the promo, i guess this means they'll be airing season 1 and 2 beck to back... yay!  ;)

Yep that's Martin Freeman.  He also played Ali G's beat box in "Ali G Indahouse".  He's also Arthur Dent in the upcoming Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie.

I think airing Season 1 and 2 back to back won't be a problem since they're just 6 eps each.  What we should be praying for are the Christmas Specials.  These are important episodes because everything gets tied up brilliantly.

oh yeah...  you're right... siya nga 'yun. i just recently caught ali g on HBO... and i didn't recognize him right away. i guess that speaks volumes on just how much of an impression that movie made on me... he he he.

oh, i don't think it'll be a problem even if the entire show was 24 shows long.... i was kinda concerned kasi that star world might not have bought the entire package... minsan kasi for budgetary reasons, these cable shows can't afford to buy all the seasons.

naku! i hope that doesn't happen with the specials... dalawa lang naman pala.  ::)

Nice ep last Saturday.  An after-office look at the blokes and a drab profile of Slough.  David screens secretaries for himself and Gareth conducts an office safety seminar for Donna.

Brent + GQ perfume ads = one sweet smelling stud.  ;D ;D ;D

Satruday's ep started with Brent firing an employee (serious stuff), and somewhere along the way, the differences between midgets, dwarfs and elves were discussed. ;D ;D ;D  Goblins and piixies almost made it to the list but not quite.

That's got to be the funniest opening so far.

So it's on to the Second Series with the first episode tonight: Brent at his cringe-inducing best plus a lot of Tim-and-Dawn action including, of course, winding up Gareth:

Tim: "So Gareth, did you see that movie last night, 'Gaylord Say No?'"
Gareth: "No."
Dawn laughs.

Ricky Gervais was supposed to be on Letterman tonight.  Wow! Two of my best regarded TV personalities sitting three feet apart and actually exchanging words.  Just the idea of it fritzes my mind.

Anyway, Brent was supposed to be promoting the Christmas Specials' regular airing (will there be one?) or the DVD release on Nov. 16, or both.  Any of your Stateside peeps who were not watching Game 6 of the Yankees-Red Sox finals get to see it?  How'd it go?

Cringe-wise, last Sat's episode was the absolute *worst* so far. I'm as big a fan as any but I just couldn't look. I literally had to look away and shake my head in embarrassment.

And Excalibur was read by Brent...to a squirming Dawn.

Courtesy of Tigger at PEx:

Excalibur
By David Brent

I froze your tears and made a dagger
And stabbed it in my c*ck forever
It stays there like Excalibur
Are you my Arthur?
Say you are

Take this cool, dark, steel-ed blade
Steal it
Sheath it in your lake
I'd drown with you to be together
Must you breathe?
Cos I need heaven
