Wow bro drooling stereo set-up na yun.

imagine 35KHZ! man tenga ko hanggang 20Hz-20Khz lang ang naririnig eh, may degration pa dahil sa age hehe! though 35Hz is decent enough for a low transducer, still 17Kg ang isa imagine BS pa yun.

kidding aside! bro if ever you got that specially the amp swerte mo na talga.

i have a JBL control Now! which use to be 250USD and i got for 63USD at Cosco, got 5 sets and tada! 30Khz of crisp sound! match lang ng sub to have a decent lows...

JBL Control now are on top of Euros 8 towers (Bed room set-up)

I passed by a friendly junk Jap hifi importer here in Davao and found a pair of unusual speakers. These were released in mid-90s by Canon, the Japanese camera firm, but were made exclusively in UK designed by Allen Boothroyd of Meridian's Boothroyd and Stuart (http://www.stereophile.com/content/canon-s-35-loudspeaker) for worldwide distribution. It was originally quoted at $400 without the stands.

Canon stopped its hifi line after this but when the S-35 was out on the market, it was called Darth Vader, black jellyfish, mushroom, or helmet speakers. I'd agree with Stereophile's review of the S-35 and would even say it was a bit generous (Canon probably paid a full page ad). But then again, the S-35 is a rare speaker and would probably qualify to be in a museum that showcases industrial designs. So, I took this pair home.

I have to post the photos here -- not on Vintage Gallery thread -- since the S-35 does not qualify as vintage hifi.

Wow sir Nani, pinagpala ka talaga pagdating sa mga magagandang items like this ;)
panalo yang Canon na yan, ganda ng itsura :)

I just want to share photos and impressions of my latest find, a Sansui S-alpha 9 speaker, data of which are hardly available online. I don't think this is an exceptional speaker, definitely not made for the alpha 907 series amps, but it was likely issued in late '90s -- current resale value in Tokyo's hifi online auctions from $100 to $150/pair. Sansui was an amplifier company and never re-established its reputation as hifi speaker manufacturer since it ended partnership with JBL in the '70s.

I got this, without tweeters, along with a cheap black Pioneer phono (PL-A350B), an upscale Sony tape deck (TC-K555ESx) and a multi-disc Pioneer CDP (PD-M50) for P5k from a junk shop here in Davao. Luckily, all four are working well now, but the S-a9s needed rehab. Found a pair of classic Bill Hecht (PhaseTech) soft-dome tweeters in my storage room, which fit the S-a9 holes. It's been in service for at least a week now.

Sensitivity could be in mid-90s (db) as it mimics large speakers. It plays louder and produces fuller sound compared with, say, the vintage Celestion SL-6 (I still have the original 6 and its successor, the 6s) whose sensitivity is at low 80s (db). S-a9 is a bit larger, actually deeper by about 3 inches, than the SL-6 and the KEF-101.  The good sound, however, breaks when played as loud as my JBL monitors. At least, the Celestions and the KEF (even the Epos 14) don't lose their character when played very loud, but they do exhibit inferiority compared with the heavyweights at live concert SPLs.

Anyway, here's my newest toy (with the candy-like look):

nani,,,,available pa ba?  ::) ;D

just went to a suking surplus shop and found technics sb-5000 speaker. I was not able to listen to it since nasa ilalim siya ng ibang speaker....so hingi na lang ako ng opinion ng mga guro with regard to the sound quality of this speaker.

Okay ba siya for a dedicated audio? thanks. :)

Hi Buzzworth
Hindi ako guru, but mayroon akong SB-5000, also from the pier. They are superb, in my opinion, especially for the price. Actually, kahit anong Technics Phase Linear is worth a listen, from the "lowly" SB-4500/A to the mighty SB-10,000. The SB-7000's in particular, are legendary.

The SB-5000 was lower-mid in terms of price when new. I paid P3,500 in 2008, at the store near BPI. I would be willing to pay P4,500 today.

Bass response is good, but a lot depends on the room. Where these speakers really shine is the tweeters. Clear, open, bright, but not harsh. Surprising resolution from a cone, rather than a dome. The overall sound picture is balanced, and sounds good without  EQ, but I usually boost about 1-2 dB at 8 kHz and 3-4 dB at 16kHz, as they're in my office, so I listen at low levels.

I do more than half my listening at the office; the fact that I chose these SB-5000's out of my 6 pairs of speakers says something.

If you want to hear my SB-5000's, I work at Southgate Tower Pasong Tamo, you can drop by any lunchtime, if you work in Makati. Just text me, as I don't regularly monitor this forum.

Mga sir,
I'd like to hear some opinions. I have a little "problem".
I have a pair of vintage Speaker Yamaha NS-2000. I bought them a year ago & haven't really decided what to do with them. They're fine, except mga gasgas sa box & sira ang cone edge. Wow talaga ang tunog ng hi & mid kahit walang edge ang carbon fiber (on low volume).
I'm contemplating on restoring them, selling them as is, or swapping them with a DSLR w HD video, dahil my business is photo/video coverage.
I hope to hear from you guys. Tempting proposals are welcome if anyone is interested to acquire them   :D
Thanks!

Hi.

Wow! These are hard to find speakers. This could be a very good restoration project. PM price if its feasible. Shipping pa lang nito medyo mahal na :-\. BTW, the Canons are a great catch. Weird but interesting. Just the way I like it! ;)

Looking forward to your immediate reply.

Thanks.

It's a keeper if you match it properly with the right amplifier that would suit your taste or preference.
