Live Aid finally gets DVD release

The 1985 Live Aid concert, one of the defining events in modern music, is to be released on DVD for the first time.

Zeppelin defend Live Aid opt out

Former Led Zeppelin members have defended their decision not to allow footage of them to appear on the forthcoming Live Aid DVD.

....A statement from the members said: "Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones are in absolute full support of the fundraising project for the people of Sudan.

"However, Jimmy, Robert and John Paul found that both the sound and general reproduction of their performance at Live Aid Philadelphia was sub-standard."

"To show their ongoing support Jimmy and Robert have therefore pledged proceeds from their forthcoming Page and Plant DVD release to the campaign.

"John Paul Jones will be donating the proceeds of his current US tour with Mutual Admiration Society to the project."

Okay, I got this today.

Audio quality is decent. It has Dolby 2.0, Dolby 5.1 and DTS tracks. Audio still gets a bit drowned out by the bands during some numbers, though.

Picture quality is what you'd expect from a direct-to-video production from 1985. Not too crisp, I'm glad they mastered this now instead of after further deterioration.

I just realized that Led Zeppelin isn't the only performance missing from this disc. I'm positive Duran Duran also sang "A View to a Kill" during this concert, and pretty badly. May "piyok" pa. That number is missing from this DVD set.  :-\

Did anybody else also notice that Madonna's performance of Love Makes The World Go Round is missing?  Any news on why this performance is not included in the DVD?

Approximately 6 hours of concert footage and 85 songs of various artists were left out in the Live Aid compilation. Check out the review from Amazon below:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0002Z9HT8/qid=1121994148/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/002-5004592-7952030?v=glance&s=dvd

The list includes the Madonna song you're asking and the infamous Duran Duran "View to a Kill" piyok by Simon LeBon.  >:D ;D

In terms of video and audio quality, it should be leaps and bounds better than the 1985 concert! I downloaded the U2 part of the Live8 concert via bittorrent and the quality is digital satellite broadcast!  ;D  I hope that all acts/performers would agree to the inclusion of their numbers in the Live8 DVD.
