brod, you're probably correct on their runtime: while r1 has 194 mins., r2 has only 189 mins. or a difference of about 5 mins., BUT i woudn't mind about it (sobrang haba na nga ng movie na to eh ;D) & would still go for the r2 primarily because of the 4th disc & maybe (just maybe) because of the absence of JC's pic on the front cover art...... 8)

i think PAL videos run much slower (or faster) than NTSC's. Both cuts of the film may be the same, but the running time isn't. I have a R2 copy of Spider-Man and a R3 copy. Both DVD's were not cut, but the R3's running time is 121 mins while the R2 copy runs 116 mins.

didn't know if i explained this properly. could anyone please elaborate?

PAL runs faster vp_ortiz ;) 25fps against 30fps(framespersecond) for NTSC its about 4% shorter, that explains 121 mins for R1 and 116 for R2...your Spidey is complete ;D ....and IMHO TITANIC R1 and R2 are very much the  same baka sa end credits lang nagkaiba :)
Classicman, JC's pic is out on the R2 4 disc nga ...wise move ;D

thanks for this technical explanation sir edboy7, no wonder almost all r2 releases have shorter running time than their r1 counterparts......& its very comforting to know your confirmation that JC's pic is out of the r2 cover ;D ;D ;D

here's the specs of the 4-disc deluxe CE as posted at dvdanswers, those highlighted in red are the contents of the 4th disc (w/c will not be included in the r1 release):

# Four-Disc Deluxe Collector's Edition
# Includes the 2-disc Special Edition plus more than three hours of never-before-seen material:
# Over 45 Minutes of New Deleted Footage: Jack fighting for his life, the passionate kiss you never saw, and Jack and Rose in their final moments together, this is just a sampling of over 45 minutes of new deleted scenes made available for the first time. Each scene is state of the art, with the effects finished to match the special effects in the theatrical feature
# Production and Special Effects Featurettes: with this selection of featurettes, take an insiders look at James Cameron in action. Get a better understanding of what goes on behind-the-scenes of a major movie production.  Experience the building of the “TITANIC” studio and film set from the ground up. Dissect scenes.  Dive to the wreckage of the actual ship. View the film crew’s personal video footage and much more
# 'Breaking New Ground': this TV special shows that there is much more to TITANIC than you ever imagined. Watch the monumental efforts that went into creating this film, beginning with building a studio just for the production of TITANIC through to its changing of industry standards, and breaking industry records
# 'The Heart of the Ocean':  HBO’s First Look TV special takes a look at TITANIC before it became the largest floating vessel of the worldwide box-office that we know today
# Three TITANIC Parodies: watch as the biggest film of all-time is spoofed in these three pieces
# Trailers: a selection of trailers, including some never-before-aired or shown

Got it from the digitalbits, there seems to be a problem with one scene as shown by this picture.

not all of the copies have problem. only select dvds which in this case more than a quarter of total count of discs manufactured. who knows how many...

actually, with only one frame being allegedly damaged, it would be a challenging task to detect or even see it... unless you have a large format monitor which would show obvious discrepancy.

i am more bothered if i should get the R1 or R2 release---the latter having more extra features compared to R1.

just wait and see what Paramount will announce as next steps. unfortunately, based on experience, studios do not respond positively for DVD exchange (even due to faulty manufacture) coming from the world outside the US. it happened so many times with my inquiries with studios.

but better push your luck and post for the development later.

from thedigitalbits:

"To the best of our knowledge, ALL copies are affected by this error (we've check ours and have confirmed it's definitely there). It's a pretty minor issue in the grand scheme of things, but it's enough for home theater-philes to be on about. So we're waiting to hear back from Paramount on this, to see what they have to say about it and if they plan to correct the problem."

i think, it's time you set your sights on the r2 version of this title w/c i did primarily because of the 4th disc...... 8)
