LEXING DV-8800 DVD PLAYER
« on: Nov 30, 2004 at 01:19 PM »
I was looking  for a generic DVD player as a gift to my parents last Saturday (price range P2,000-2,500) at Raon; met Alfie pa nga and was given a tour to the various stalls that offer the cheapo generic players including his recommended RONGXIN 215, but at the end of the day, the LEXING DV-8800 became my final choice... haaay at last, I won't be bringing my XTREME DVD player anymore when visiting my parents in the province...  :D

Features:
- Supports various formats: VCD/SVCD/XVCD/CD-R/CD-RW/DVD/DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD+R/DVD+RW/MP3/JPEG
- Multiple screen aspect ratio (16:9/4:3 pan-scan/4:3 letter box)
- Video output: Composite, RGB (component), and S-Video
- Audio output: Optical, Coaxial, 2 analog channels,  6 RCA Dolby Digital output for AC-3
- With built-in DTS decoder
- Built-in 5.1-channel output and Dolby Digital (AC-3) downmix to 2 channels
- Full Karaoke function w/ digital echo and pitch control
- 1 Mic input and 1 Mic volume control located at the back of the unit
- Internal PAL/NTSC converter
- PBC (Digest)
- Progressive scan
- With VGA port
- With 2 Game ports
- With 300 Family Computer games (CD-based)
- Autovolt (AC 110V-250V)

Pros:
- Read all my test/problematic discs
- Fast reading of discs; even reads a badly scratched disc  :o
- Sleek and slim design; dehins chipipay-looking
- With games (pampatahimik sa mga may makukulit na anak katulad ko  ;D)
- Fast reading/display of JPEGs
- Darn cheap for an almost fully-featured DVD player
- Attn RobertJ: (a) the player read the end credits of Austin Power's Goldmember (HK DVD) flawlessly,  (b) plays anamorphic PAL encoded discs correctly and (c) has no lipsynch problems  ;)

Cons:
- Combing artifacts encountered when playing my QUEEN: We Will Rock You  by MCD test disc; almost all generic players has this problem with the exception of my XTREME 6500A and Nextbase (first batch) DVD players  ::)
- Digital echo is not that good, it's quite irritating to the ears  :-/  Good thing I have a mic w/ built-in and controllable echo  :)
- No built-in fan (heatsink only) although after playing movies for 6 hours and Karaoke session with my mom and dad (non-stop w/out utilizing an external fan), the unit is not that hot to the touch and no freezing/hanging problems encountered tapos nung pagkapanood ko nagbabad pa sa paglalaro yung mga kids ko for another 3 hours :o
- No STEP and LAST MEMORY functions; Fast Forward is up to 20X only; No Video Bitrate feature; Screensaver is so simple - bouncing "DVD Video" text only; packaging box is not the carry-case type like that of XTREME or Nextbase in this case para kang bumili ng gas stove  ;D  But for its dirt cheap price, the aforementioned deficiencies are forgivable  :D

Price: P2,150 only with one year warranty  :-[

Bought the unit from Stall 52 at Raon Shopping Center where I got my ultimate generic DVD player (XTREME 6500A:D

IN CLOSING: If you are searching for an entry-level player or a backup player that is darn cheap and compatible with most everything that can presently be thrown at it,  look no further LEXING DV-8800 is the unit for you...  O0

Kumusta DTS decoding? How does image quality compare to Nextbase, Extreme or yung mga branded?

At gumagana ba talaga progressive scan? Kumusta quality ng output mula sa component?

Naghahanap din kasi ako ng cheap player with working DTS decoder, component output and prog scan.

DTS decoding is functional naman bro and with regards to image quality, same lang with XTREME and Nextbase.  :)

Monzki,
kamusta na yung lexing na torture test mo na ba?

Pasado siya sa torture test ko -> 9 hours non-stop playtime which includes 4 hours (movies), 2 hours (karaoke session) and 3 hours (games) without utilizing any fan ( yung electric fan saken nakatutok dehins sa unit  ;D ) and no hanging/freezing problems experienced naman  :)

I bought one at Stall 52 last February 2, at P2100. Bought this primarily as a back-up player. Tested it for about 6 hours (ROTK EE, and one pDVD) and true enough even though it doesn't have a built-in exhaust fan (Heat sink only) hindi sya masyado umiinit. Mas mabilis uminit yung Skyworth 2650 ko.

I'm not using this to play the CD-based games since compatible yung controller at CD sa generic VCD PLayer ko na nasira na yung controller at CD about two years ago. Dito ko na lang ginamit para di masira ng pamangkin ko yung player.

Sellers of Stall 52 will initially priced it at P2300 but if you can haggle, try to haggle it at P2000 and they will give it at a lower price.

Lexing and Extreme has similar logos (look at the XI and the XT of both logos), and maybe they are made by same manufacturer.  ???

Ang sagwa nga ng box nito. parang box ng gas range nga as per Bro. Monzki's comment  ;D Kulay brown pa, mukha talagang mumu (mumurahin). :(

The remote control could be better, but its good na "glow-in-the-dark" nga . It has a GO TO function in the TIME button of the RC (Chapter, specific time step/jump) which Bro. Monzki mislooked initially (Bro. ako na nag-post, been waiting for you to edit pero di mo inedit e  ;)).

Stall 52 doesn't have this 8800 model on display. When I inquired about this, they say ubos na stocks nila (sa Stall 52) but they can get it naman daw sa stock room(?). I was thinking of getting another model but decided to try this one kasi may previous satisfied buyers na naman ito e. At naisip ko rin na since ito ang madali maubos, baka madami bumibili nitong partcular model.

I was given a 6-month warranty on replacement and a one year warranty on service.

Bro,

The available games are the "jurassic" Family Computer games   ;D  e.g. Super Mario Bros.,
Contra, Legend of Kage, Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, etc.  PC games are not compatible or
playable  :-[

Hey guys, tanong ko lang kasi my dad wants me to get him a miyata brand or an old orange model(I think it was orange 68). Do you think Lexing is far better than Miyata? Need your help guys, I'm in the dark when it comes to these things. Thanks!

After 23 days, my Lexing just won't play any DVDisc. It can still play CDs, MP3 discs, VCDs, but when I tried to play Red Dragon DVD, it just won't play and the display would show NO DISC. The funny thing is I watched Red Dragon yesterday on my Lexing, just wasn't able to finish the movie because guests came by the house. after they left, I tried to continue watching the movie and it won't play na.

I Have to bring it back to Stall 52 for a replacement

Monzki,

i saw this unit at raon electronics as well as one shop but in carriedo doon sa mga mostly nagbebenta ng celfones.

it is round buntis faceplate type. physically looks okay.

but i ended up buying the "newer" model (daw) Lexing DVD-DIVX #906

i will share my review impressions on the 906 seprately.

thanks Monzki for sharing your experiences always.
