Some news on Mallrats X from newsaskew.com:
It seems that there was indeed some legitimate confusion regarding the Mallrats X DVD. It'll be just a single-disc set, but a two-sided one. We're assuming it's one of those fancy dual-layer, dual-sided discs, so you're basically getting the same amount of content as you'd see on two separate discs. Just less physical storage space and one less disc to lose or get covered in your grubby fingerprints. So that's nice. Here's Kevin with the clarification:
Here's the new scoop: it IS a single disc. DVD Answers was correct. BUT, it's a TWO-SIDED DVD
Here's how the ONE DISC/TWO SIDED DVD lays out, thus far. Naturally, this is subject to change.
I'll mark what's new (stuff made for this edition) and what's old (from the previous DVD release).
SIDE 1
THEATRICAL CUT (OLD)
· ORIGINAL ON SET CAST INTERVIEWS (NEW)
· A BRIEF Q&A WITH KEVIN SMITH (NEW)
· THE ERECTION OF AN EPIC - THE MAKING OF MALLRATS (NEW)
· BLOOPERS (NEW)
· VIEW ASKEW'S LOOK BACK AT MALLRATS (OLD)
· FEATURE COMMENTARY (OLD)
· THEATRICAL TRAILER (OLD)
· THE GOOPS "BUILD ME UP BUTTERCUP" (OLD)
SIDE TWO 2
· KEVIN AND SCOTT'S INTRODUCTION (NEW)
· MALLRATS RE-CUT (NEW)
· MALLRATS CAST REUNION Q&A SESSION (NEW)
There are also three new Easter Eggs buried in that disc as well. Sadly, due to space constraints, we had to lose the optional angle on the old commentary track from the previous "Rats" DVD, and there's no new commentary track either (again, we ran out of space). Regardless, this new, 10th anniversary special edition is PACKED!
I think the audience would agree with me there?
We never recorded a new commentary track. Mos and I just felt like everything there was to say was said in the old commentary track, the new doc, the Q&A, and the new intro to the new cut.
Due to the side separation, both films will still run uninterrupted in their full bitrates. We're expecting the best-looking transfer of the film to date. 'Rats has been well-known as one of the most rewatchable of the bunch, so be prepared to add this one to your collection, and spin it up in your DVD player for years to come.
