I'd like to. I'm eyeing the Nova series of docus -- reviews I've read tend to rate these pretty highly. So far I've only collected the
Mysteries and Myths of the 20th Century 5-disc boxed set. I decided to purchase the set because I'd seen some episodes on Discovery Channel and found them adequately satisfying. They brought back childhood memories of watching those Unexplained Mysteries docus about the curse of Tutankhamen, the Loch Ness monster, UFO's, etc., narrated by Leonard Nimoy. I'm a real sucker for that kind of stuff.
I recall BENTLY mentioning that he has the
Space docu (is that the one produced by Tom Hanks for HBO?).
I know that Carl Sagan's
Cosmos is available on DVD, but I found that show pretentious compared to his British counterpart's (the BBC's science journalist, James Burke) effort,
Connections: An Alternative View of Change. Unfortunately, neither the original Connections, nor its later incarnations (Connections II and III), are available on DVD. Damn. But if it ever makes it, I highly recommend that show.
Another appealing thing about documentary collections is that they are usually low-priced. You just have to be extremely choosy, and do your due diligence on the documentary in question, because some of the low-priced ones are so terrible they are unwatchable.
