How about Top 10 Anime Favorites on DVD instead?

Here's my list (in no particular order):
  • The Wings of Honneamise
  • Tenchi Muyo (Ultimate Edition)
  • Akira (Special Edition)
  • Giant-Robo (Platinum Edition)
  • Grave of the Fireflies
  • Lain (OAV Layers 1 to 13)
  • Macross (Complete TV Series - Coming Soon)
  • Future Boy Conan (OAV)
  • Princess Mononoke
  • Cowboy Bebop (OAV)
There's a lot more out there but most of them haven't been released on subtitled DVD editions yet.

1. Akira - Still waiting for mine. Supposed to have the most features for an R1 anime dvd.
2. Castle of Cagliostro
3. Cowboy Bebop (Rules. Moviemoviemovie pleasepleaseplease)
4. Mononoke (and anything Ghibli makes)
5. Please Save My Earth
6. Samurai X OAVs
7. Tenchi Movie 1 and 3 - Cheap (except for 3 which is sold out)! And real good
8. Gunsmith Cats Bulletproof - All 3 kick arse episodes in one
9. Perfect Blue - nice features, too.
10. The Heroic Legend of Arslan

Others that didn't make the top 10
a) Ninja Scroll - everything you could ever want in an anime is here.
b) The Vision of Escaflowne - A (slightly) flawed gem of an anime. nice japanese interviews. Can't wait for the movie.

The best DVDs in terms of price value come from Central Park Media. They try to fit in all the episodes of an anime in one package (usually one disc, two disc set, or a box set depending on the number of episodes and features)

To All Anime collectors, please shed light to this;
I recently got a 2nd hand "A Wind Named Ammnesia", and it was retailed by U.S.Mangga, has an intact security seal, and the dorsal digibyte  markings present, however, I have doubts that what I have is the original copy due to the ff. findings;1)The DVD said that it's ALL REGION, are US MANGGA Anime, All Region?
2)There is no insert, but the cover page has printed material on it's back making it appropriate for transparent DVD cases, Is this right?
        3) It seems to be a US version but how come the region coding is absent? Do they sell Anime DVD's this way?
The Pokemon and Digimon series are all I am acquainted with and they are so far different from this, but I can understand that due to the marketing strategy involved by the handlers of Pokemon and Digimon, Now, with other Anime Titles, is this the same or not, especially the ones claimed to have been procured in the US?
Any response will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Alfie -- I think it's possible that some genuine US Manga releases are multi-region.  Since these are not beholden to any Hollywood studio (the main proponents of regional coding), they do not have to follow the region code system.

Regional coding is purely voluntary, it's not a law...much as the Hollywood studios would like to make it so...

Hi Alfie! I've got Wind Named Amnesia, from Amazon. It's with a friend right now, so I can't confirm... Here's what I recall: Like your DVD, there are no inserts. However, it may be Code 1, nor is the case transparent. Although U.S. Manga Corps has recently adopted the two policies for their latest anime. I dunno if they "revamped" Wind Named Amnesia.

I just checked Amazon, and it mentions Wind Named Amnesia is Region Free :)

Multiple Angles, Thank You so much, I was really expecting you to answer those questions of mine, I opted to post it instead of sending you a PM for the mere reason that I think, it'll be informative to the others.
Actually I really doubted my copy, but, it was already there so I have it at home now, I will probably watch it later and rate it if it's OK for my recently weaned POKEMON Children.
Again, my sincerest appreciation to your immediate response.

My favorite is the Rurouni Kenshin OAV.
The TV series was great, but I got blown away by the OAV!
Too bad that they didnt include the "Revenge" storyline in the series, wherein Tomoe's( Himuras first love, as told in the OAV) brother, Einishi( tama ba spelling?) now an expert swordsman himself, seeks Kenshin and gets his revenge by "killing" Kaouru.
Ninja Scroll and Princess Mononoke are up there, too, in my best anime list.
Im still hoping a DVD version of VOLTES V will come out.

I haven't seen it myself, so please don't spoil the ending for people like me.  If you're going to discuss specific plot details of a film or show, kindly preface it with spoiler warnings.  Thanks.

Brain, I'm also waiting for Heaven's Door. Holding my breath :) I'm pretty sure that they'll be translating it ASAP. Hopefully, they'll include the original English cast (who are far and away the best.)

Some notables that weren't mentioned:

Tenchi Muyo! (the first series)

Record of Lodoss War (OAV, not the TV series)

Serial Experiments Lain (I even got to purchase the lunchbox so that I could keep the DVDs I separately purchased to make it look like the legit box set)

hihihi... I remember watching Akira when I was a skinny lad of 10... Crazy experience. If you want, I can recommend some anime titles that are kid-friendly.

...

In other news:

Here's a promotion that anime fans (who haven't seen this title) have to take advantage of:

Cowbo
y Bebop Limited Set

Apart from the included Soundtrack CD, I dunno what the other additional features are.

I saw Jin Roh on the big screen last spring.  I can just say that if you're looking for CGI stuff a-la Escaflowne or Cowboy Bebop, you're in for a disappointment.  This anime is done in the old school fashion.

In relation to this, has anyone seen Avalon yet?  I was wondering if it was worth picking up.  Scarecrow Video out here is selling a special edition R2 NTSC version of the movie, but I don't just want to blow my bucks on something I might regret.

Also, does anyone have the Studio Ghibli box set out here?  Any opinions?

Go, Doraemon!!!

I have the following Anime on DVD:

1)AKIRA (Limited Tin Special Edition) - kicks major ass

2)Gundam Wing Endless Waltz: Special Edition (contains both the uncut movie and OAV versions of the film) - first anime DVD, totally rocks...

3)Cowboy Bebop (26 episode set) - good show... total fun to watch

4)Yuyu Hakusho (2 boxed DVD sets) - yup, I have it complete... all 100+ episodes of it

5)Hades Project Zeorymer - not bad... good mecha designs, lousy story though

6) Neo Getta Robo vs Shin Getta Robo - so so anime, bought it coz it was the only copy left in the store... my advise? just borrow this clunker if you can find anyone who has...

7)Fushigi Yugi - ok... don't laugh... yes I have the complete set of FY episodes (bought them for my GF, turns out she already bought VCD copies of this one, so I watched it and found it enjoyable ;) ) and plan on collecting Watase's other anime series Ayashi no Ceres once we get DVDs of that.

hehehehehe.. aside from that, I also have VCD copies of other anime titles (my prized ones being the Ah! My Goddess and Ranma OAVs)... anime freak eh (halata ba?)...   ;D

if there's one thing I don't collect it's hentai... (but that dosen't mean i don't watch them... bweheheheheh!!! :P )
