Go here Anime on DVD and refer to their Disc Reviews section.

OVA or OAV: Original Video Animation or Original Animated Video. Are ANIME distributed directly to home video, without ever being shown in theaters or television.

Enjoy!

Thanks, Dozer. Obviously, I'm just starting to appreciate Anime. Though, I've seen some, but it's all series. That's why, I'm looking for a full movie.

Hi barrid.

Pareho pala tayo. Yung iba ok lang like, Tekken and Gundam Wing the Movie.

This is a general anime DVD thread.  What you have...what you'd like to have...your top 10 favorites...as long as it's about anime DVD, you can post it here.  There's nothing in the subject that limits this thread to posting merely what anime DVDs you would want.

Just like people to know that I did "search" this place...and indeed my imprez of this thread wasn't what I had in mind.  Coz parang kung 'anime' eh isang thread na lang ok na yun...do a search of 'anime' here...you'd see why...and going by the thread starter's first post, it still doesn't go by that point either.  But you're the boss..ikaw ang masusunod dito...right?

IMHO though...

If you'd like an explanation of the logic behind my decision, fair enough.  Here in the DVD Discussion area, there are two threads about anime:  this general anime thread, and another one called Anime You'd Like to See on DVD, that is concerned with anime titles as yet unreleased on DVD.  So I figure we have one thread to cover existing anime DVDs (where we can post our wish list, our collection, our favorites, etc.), and another to cover anime not yet released on DVD.  That should be enough.

But just to show you that I understand your point, I'm going to reopen the thread you made, and modify the title to make it more specific.  Okay?

Quote

But you're the boss..ikaw ang masusunod dito...right?

IMHO though...

Just trying to my job the best I can.  May I just say that since you're just concerned about one thread, and I have to worry about 326 threads in this area, as well as 293 more threads in two other areas I handle, that perhaps it wouldn't hurt you to cut me just a little slack?  ;)

Thanks for your input, though.  I do appreciate it.  :)

Posted this before but few people seems to have noticed it... so I'll post it again :)

Anime fans take note!!

I.
[Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is coming out on DVD on February (R1, around $29)].

Includes: behind the scenes Featurette, Storyboard to Feature Comparison, Theatrical trailers and TV spots, Viewers’ Top Ten Picks, Dolby Digital 5.1, Motion Menus, UV Trailers, Weblinks, Anamorphic Widescreen (1.85:1), Closed Captioning

This is the new Vampire Hunter D and is way better than the old one. Too bad it's English dubbed only, but from what I've seen on the trailers, ok yung dubbing ;)

II.
JinRoh [R1, will be released in regular ($around $30)  and special (around $60) editions; release date: Marh 5, 2002]

Includes:
(all editions)
Complete, unedited film - YEAH!!!
Anamorphic
Dolby Digital 5.1 Japanese and English audio
DTS Japanese audio
English Subtitles

(only for special editions - this monster is fully loaded!!! and I thought Akira had tons of extras as it is... but this is even better!!!  )

Disc 2: Extras
"Speculate About Jin-Roh"
Interviews with Mamoru Oshii (creator, screenwriter) Hiroyuki Okiura (director) Hiromasa Ogura (background designer)
Trailer Collection (Japanese trailers, English-version Trailer)
Production Art Gallery (approximately 100 pages of production art)

Disc 3: CD Soundtrack

16 page all-color booklet

III.
Escaflowne the Movie [R1, available in regular and special editions; the guy from Bandai said, that Escaflowne "...will have more..." in comparison to JinRoh SE (more than JinRoh!?! downside? patay tayo sa pricing ng Escaflowne SE   )]

Includes: (tentative)
Dolby and DTS sound, interviews, production art and other features
Special edition package also will carry an exclusive CD with the soundtrack

DTS yung Escaflowne and JinRoh!!! Awesome!!!!

Great for fans!!!
Patay naman ang mga wallet!!!

i think most of the anime titles are for 13 and up.
i'm a parent myself and i do not let my daugther watch most of my anime collection, i'm not really worried exposing her on minor cartoon nudities...but more so on the graphic fighting and violence.

the only anime titles that i would allow my daughter to watch are, kiki's delivery service , Panda Go Panda and Pokemon :D

Yeah.. gotta admit, most anime's are geared toward late teenagers and adults.

Some such as Samurai X/Ruruoni Kenshin (TV series) are still watchable by kids although the Japanese versions (unlike the ones dubbed locally here) do contain some amounts of blood. Others such as Dragonball (watch the fansubs, and you'll see what I mean) involve a lot of bloodshed and cursing.

Be careful of choosing anime, though, as some titles may seem kiddie-like in comparison (because they don't look serious or they don't contain sex and violence) but are something you wouldn't want the kids to see until they're a bit older, such as Grave of the Fireflies which has in my opinion a very tragic yet incredibly moving storyline.

My favorite is the Rurouni Kenshin OAV.
The TV series was great, but I got blown away by the OAV!
Too bad that they didnt include the "Revenge" storyline in the series, wherein Tomoe's( Himuras first love, as told in the OAV) brother, Einishi( tama ba spelling?) now an expert swordsman himself, seeks Kenshin and gets his revenge by "killing" Kaouru.
Ninja Scroll and Princess Mononoke are up there, too, in my best anime list.
Im still hoping a DVD version of VOLTES V will come out.

Good news, Battou! The "Revenge" Arc's been (or being) animated, and even better news is it's done a la the OAVs! I saw the first part this afternoon. Sweet!

Dawgz, you might wan't to start with older anime. My experience with many viewers is that those who've seen the newer, technologically sophisticated anime (like -yuk- Spriggan) can't appreciated the gold ol' toons of yor like Macross/Robotech, or even Akira.

Since the SRP of legit anime DVDs goes for about $24, you'll have to find a very generous seller with 2nd-hand DVDs if you want em for P700. Still, been lucky a few times :)

Better yet, why don't you check out AXN's lineup first? I highly recommend Slam Dunk :)

Was it on DVD? Now THAT'S sweet!

FYI, not everything from the Revenge arc will be animated, only the bits and pieces that form the gist of the arc and directly relates to Kenshin ( judging by the length of the first part). Too bad, but still at least we get new Kenshin animation.  :)

It was VHS actually :(, but I'm pretty sure ADV Films will be coming out with the DVD soon :)

[Spoilers]
Part one didn't actually deal with the revenge part until the very end - with a dramatic cliffhanger. The bulk of the anime is more like a summary of Kenshin's growth through Kaouru's eyes, starting from day one.

Demmit!!!
Bitin yung first part ng second OAV ng Rurouni Kenshin.
I believe na-release na ngSONY yung DVD nito sa Japan.
Got one last year on VCD.
Any news when the second part will come out?
Rumor was on February. Pero malapit ng matapos Feb, wala pa rin.
Too bad at di yata ipapakita ng buo yung Revenge storyline. The creators, i think, said that this was supposed to end the TV series. Seeing as how the last episode( the un-aired one ) was too boring, this might make-up for the request fans have been making on the Enishi arc, and a satisfying ending to the series.
Hmmm. They are now selling the Mazinger Z TV series on DVD, at Hongkong.
Set 1 to 3 contains 4 DVDs( so 12 lahat, at 1-32, 33-64, 64-92) Di kasama Great Mazinger dito.
Now, if only theyd make a Voltes V DVD.

Hi.
I'm not your typical hardcore Anime fan like most of you guys are.  I guess I'm stuck in the 70s/80s.
Are there DVD releases of Voltes V, Mazinger Z, and Candy Candy? If there are, where can I find them?
Thanks.
