Hi guys!
Got a friend who frequents Hongkong due to work.
Where in Hongkong (store and place, if possible) can I ask him to search for this Mazinger Z DVD series?
Thanks.

Hi bently...

yes, I would suggest you rent it first. I saw it once and I wasn't really that impressed. I thought it was kinda a waste of time (not exactly Otomo-san at his best). I would suggest you either borrow or rent it muna. If you really like it, then tsaka mo na lang bilhin... :)

Hmmm. This Spriggan DVD sorta looks like the HongKong anime DVDs they sell, here, in Greenhills.
Whats wrong with Spriggan?
I happen to enjoy that anime. Great action!
And it adds a twist on Noah's Arc.
Re: Mazinger Z
Im sure they have it na in HongKong. Although the subtitles of these HK DVDs are usually crappy, they are bearable naman.

Hi barrid!!

Hentai - basically adult-anime; if an anime title is classified as hentai, it's strictly for adults only, and contains nudity, adult situations, excessve/graphic sex, bestiality etc, etc. not something you'd like the kids to see...

some examples of hentai are:
La Blue Girl
Countdown
Cool Devices
Angel of Darkness
Twin Angel
Urotsokidoji

Ghibli or Studio Ghibli (as they're known) is a famous anime studio in Japan who're quite famous for some anime classics such as Kiki's Delivery Service. They make quite good anime IMHO and most of they're titles may seem childish compared to other anime (whose emphasis seems to be action, violence etc.) but watch one and you might be surprised.  ::)

Hi xage!!
Yup, close enough. Hentai actually means "pervert" and thats what they use to classify adult anime in Japan.  ;)

Just got a few orginal anime DVDs from HK recently. I got about 15 titles, mostly of the Super Robots, from a store called Anime King at the basement of Golden Shopping Center in Sham Shui Po (ironic, isn't it?)

You can also get them in Mongkok and Causeway--albeit at a higher price.

I bought some HK Anime DVDs from Ebay. How can I tell if they are original or not? Logos? Price? Company name? Any other marker?  Thanks! I appreciate it as I go deep and deeper on ANIME.

Sorry for the late reply, Dogz.
Sa CATS in Virra Mall, may mga DVDs na anime dun. Meron din sa ibang portion, sa may bandang taas, na nagbebenta ng anime DVDs. Sa tabi ng CATs( or is CATs din yun? Basta they sell comics, but not Filbars ) meron ding nagbebenta ng anime DVDs, and some of them are original.
Sad thing is, they are overpriced.
At nakakatawa pa price nila. They sell those anime( well, those Hong Kong ones ) at PhP1,400/pc. And the audacity for them to say that they are now selling them at 50% discount(PhP700). Grabeng mahal. Pero Im not complainnig. Theyre just trying to make a buck, which is just what business is all about. Just be wary of these shops.
I can give you an e-mail address where you could inquire about them HK anime DVDs. Just PM me.

kamoteque, yang Ghost in The Shell at Akira eh Anamorphic 1.85:1, you can get rid of the black bars kung I- on mo yung 16x9 mode ng DVD Player  mo (sa video or display settings), medyo hahaba nga lang ang mukha ng mga to pero fullscreen na siya sa 4:3 display mo.

final fantasy X ???
isn't this a game?
but if your refering to Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within with the infamous Dr. Aki Ross, then just make sure that it's a 2 disk set and it contains all the feature, plus the easter egg that contains the M.J. spoof on the Thriller dance routine :)

Hmmm, nuong college years ko, kinalokohan ko rin yang anime (well, not as 'otaku' as my friends) I remember my favorite anime at that time were:

1) Kimagure Orange Road (number ONE to me)
2) Ranma 1/2 (well not that much)
3) Urusei Yatsura (hehehe, this I like)
4) Bubblegum Crisis (yung unang una, I forgot what year, 20xx)
5) Ah My Goddess! (Belldandy!)
6) Urutsukidoji  :o (just kidding!)

The last one is subject to debate...well...panoorin niyo muna.  ;D

Ngayon, Initial-D!

Hi guys!!

Seems like there's been a confusion regarding the FFX(2 disc) DVD set. Final Fantasy X is an RPG for the PS2 and it come on a single DVD. I think the 2 disc set being offered by some sellets are the cinemas of FFX extracted and placed into DVD (correct me if I'm wrong). To my knowledge, the only thing that comes close to an animated Final Fantasy is FF: Legend of the Crystals (which is based on FFV).

On a side note:
Yes, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust kicks major butt. Bought a copy just a few weeks ago from PARC. It dosen't have much in the extras department (just a featurette and a bunch of trailers and not much else), but features so much kick-ass action. Dubbing is great and animation is superb. Well-worth the price talaga.  :D

Hi Rak-rak!

Well, yup, VHD is a very good anime movie. Yung plot, medyo simple lang nga, pero the action, music and atmosphere of the movie blend so well. Kahit English dub lang sya, ang galing ng mga voice actors and actresses. And the dialogue itself serious ang tone and was well written (it dosen't sound cheesy like other American dubs).  ;)

Hehehehehe... Actually, aside from Vampire Hunter D, other DVD titles that have released/coming out on 16:9 are Ah! My Goddess the Movie (have this already), Jinroh (lumabas na ata to eh, already ordered one from PARC) and Escaflowne the Movie (coming in May). Mostly, mga high profile anime releases will come out on 16:9. Jinroh and Escaflowne are even rumored to have DTS of BOTH English and Japanese soundtracks (R2 versions of Vampire Hunter D and Ah! My Goddess the Movie are in DTS and come on 2 discs, but the R1 versions are single discs and 5.1 surround only).
