HBO's Six Feet Under
« on: Sep 17, 2002 at 08:00 PM »
Still no sign of The Sopranos, but HBO's other acclaimed series, Six Feet Under, is coming to HBO Asia this October. Here's their press release:

SIX FEET UNDER coming soon to HBO Asia

HBO's new highly-anticipated and much-talked about series, Six Feet Under, will make its exclusive debut on HBO in October. Created and executive-produced by Alan Ball who won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar last year for the smash hit "American Beauty". The series is about the life of a Los Angeles family in the business of death.

Using dramatic irony and dark, situational humor, Six Feet Under approaches the subject of death through the eyes of the Fisher family, who own and operate Fisher & Sons Funeral Home in Lost Angeles.

Six Feet Under is nominated for 23 Emmy Awards this year including "Outstanding Drama Series", "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series" and "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series".

HBO Asia will be airing a special two-hour premiere of Six Feet Under on October 12 at 10:50pm. New episodes every Tuesday at 10pm.

I'm really curious about this show, since it picked up the most number of Emmy nominations (23) this year. Runner up was The West Wing, with 21 nominations.

Six Feet Under is a fun show. I think I enjoy watching it because I get some kind of satisfaction that there are more screwed up people than me.  ;D ;D

Heads up ... David's boyfriend Keith is soooo hot and Federico is so cute LOL.

What ? Oz s-u-c-k-s !!! Aside from the hot Chris Meloni, there's no reason to watch it. I stopped watching when he left and move to another Law & Order spin-off. Not even a frontal nudity of Luke Perry can save it. Of couse, it's a big hit in the gay community with all the man-to-man action in jail scenes. LOL.

There's this new show on HBO created by Larry David, the same guy who partnered with Jerry Seinfeld to make Seinfeld, that's been getting a lot of good buzz.  It's called Curb Your Enthusiasm I think .. and this time, it's all about him, not
Jerry.  ;D

Think this thread should be called HBO Shows ;D. I love HBO!!!

Sungit, I was able to watch the first season of Oz. Well actually some of it. The DVD consist of 3 disc, and we've had it for months but we only saw Disc 1. It's not bad but it isn't good either.  It didn't hold my interest the same way Soprano did. But that's just me.

Of the three Oz episodes I watched, the only one I liked was the episode where they talked about god/God.  But I cannot remember much about it. :-\ That's how much it held my interest. By the way, the prison cells look "comfy"....it looks a lot neater than our room! Hehehe!

I'm also looking forward to Curb Your Enthusiasm. ;)  I highly doubt they'll show Soprano here. Because f they did, Tony's dialogue would be something like this: "What's  *beep* going on here? You *beep*, you *beep* hurt my daughter, you will *beep* be sure you go *beep* straight to hell!" or something like that.  I almost don't know where to put the beeps. Heheheehe.... ;D

What can I say, sungit? You love Seinfeld and Cheers, you hate Third Rock. Now THIS. You really have great taste in TV shows! I thought I was the only one who watched Mr. Show here! It's BIZARRE... which is what makes it so good!

I don't think it stands a chance in hell of being on HBO Asia, though.  The humor is too... "out there" for Asian audiences, IMHO.

Got the first two seasons on DVD, though. :)

hey hankey i know good TV when i see it. mr.show's humor reminds me kasi of another comedy group/show that i love -- The Kids in the Hall!!! ;D absurd humor rocks!

btw, larry david's widely credited for seinfeld's best episodes and seasons. after he left, the quailty kind of went down for awhile. i like his humor. very cynical. very noo yawk.

speaking of HBO, the one show that i miss? The Larry Sanders Show. sayang they didn't show it in its entirety.

Good news!!! If you have Bravo, you can watch re-runs of The Larry Sanders Show.  The best episode was the one with David Duchovny, totally in love with Larry, and was doing the Sharon Stone thing from Basic Instinct wearing a robe while talking to him as he was inviting him to the show. Very, very funny !

I never got to see their show. I saw BRAIN CANDY, though. They come across as a Canadian Monty Python troupe to me...

Very true. I don't think the show ever fully recovered after he left. Still funny, but missing a bit of the edge. But they were doing A LOT better than what he did when he returned for the final episode. Was that crappy or what?

Yeah. I was always wondering why they only showed the first (or was it first two?) seasons on HBO Asia. Baka tayo lang dalawa yung nanood. ;)

Showing right now on HBO Asia.

In case you missed it, the rerun is at 10:30PM on Monday, then the new episode will be at 10PM on Tuesday.

It's pretty interesting, but I had to hit the VCR, since I got an important phone call 20 minutes into it. I'll watch it after and post my thoughts then.

Yes, starting next week, the schedule for Six Feet Under on HBO Asia is:

Original Episode: Tuesdays at 10PM
Rerun: Saturdays after the Saturday Night Original Movie

But you won't be around for the rerun, will you?  ;)

Anyone know if this show is due on DVD in the near future? I'm really not looking forward to following yet another series on a weekly basis... I'm watching more than I can handle already as it is!

No I won't but this is why they invented VCRs for.

Maybe you should just tape it and watch it in one long marathon like i'm doing for all the other shows i haven't watched. instead of a 24 hour 24 marathon you can have a 6 hour 6 feet under marathon....or not.  ;D

There's a six feet under dvd but it's a concert video by some band with songs like Hacked to Pieces (Backstage Version) and Feasting on the Blood of the Insane.  ;D

Oh anyone else notice that Gabriel was Jesse from Buffy season 1?

My favorite character so far is Claire. Lauren Ambrose rules!

As usual my sister thinks nate is HOOOOOT! never mind everything else.  ::)

Last time I did that was when I set the timer on the VCR to tape Dark Skies during the early morning hours on AXN. As a result, I now have 3 full tapes of a series I haven't watched... and I still don't know when I'll ever get to watch it!

Thank you! That's where he was from... the "where have I seen him before" has been driving me crazy ever since I saw him on the "24" DVD a few weeks ago. Speaking of which, when you start "24", tell me if you can identify where you've seen the photographer on the airplane in the first episode... :)

Just watched the first episode of Six Feet Under. I'm underwhelmed. I'll watch the second one tomorrow, then try again on Tuesday. If after that I'm still just "okay lang" on this show, then maybe it's one I can skip...

...until it turns up on DVD...  ::)

Saw it last night too.  For me, it's probably one of the series with the deadest pan comedy I've seen.  I like it!  Can't wait 'till Tuesday for episode 3 :)

I also recognized the computer dude from 24, and the best friend girl from Can't Hardly Wait, if I remember right.  She's cute, yes. :D

And another thing, the opening credits say the actor who plays Nate is just a guest.  Does that mean he's only gonna appear in a few episodes?

No, "Nate" is played by Peter Krause, who has top billing on the show. Guest star Richard Jenkins plays "Nathaniel Fisher", the dad of Nate, David and Claire. Despite the events in the pilot, he's a recurring character on the show, even up to the second season.

Let me just clarify: I don't dislike the show. I was just underwhelmed by the pilot, probably since I had very high expectations due to all the hype. I felt the same way about the pilot of The Sopranos, and now that's one of my favorite shows.

Last night's episodes sure had a lot of cuts!  >:( I think I'd like to live in a house like that....such a "comfortable" funeral parlor heheheheh.
