i forgot to ask this, anyone else think of American Beauty when they heard the Six Feet Under Theme  Music?

Yup! Especially when Nate was jogging and it was a midshot with the trees in the background going by him. I was picturing Kevin Spacey. ;D

I wasn't really blown away by the first two episodes but I liked it and I'll keep watching.

We put the fun back in funeral. Haha!

Now i know why they sound the same. THomas Newman who did the theme music also did American Beauty and Road to Perdition.

have to add him to my fave composers list.

My favorite character so far is Claire. Lauren Ambrose rules!

You are the only other person I know who thinks that. I heart her.

well, i'm probably also the only person you know who actually sat through Psycho Beach Party just to watch Lauren Ambrose.  ;D

loved her in Can't hadly wait as well.

Next week's episode looks like a cool one with lots of claire fisher hijinks.

Well, there's bluewillow, but that's because I forced it on him. ;D  I actually like her because of Psycho Beach Party. I love that movie.

Just watched the first episode of Six Feet Under. I'm underwhelmed. I'll watch the second one tomorrow, then try again on Tuesday...

Glad I stuck it out. That third episode was simply brilliant!

Excellent cast, as well.

Now I still want to know when it'll be out on DVD, but for a different reason. I want to find out when to start saving up so I can immediately add it to my collection. :)

i was laughing out loud while watching the episode. I'm starting to love this show.  ;D

Claire is still my favorite character but the rest of the cast is brilliant too. I agree the third episode is much much funnier than the first two.

demented angel: she was the girl who slpet with seth green in the bathroom. she had shorter hair in that movie.

Don't get too comfortable with the fantasy sequences ... a trademark of Ally McBeal in it's peak ... you'll see them less and less .. and then gone.

But yeah, Peter Krause is a head turner. I've had my eyes on him back in Sports Night.

But my favorite characters are Keith and Federico.

The first season was really fun ... the second went downhill. I was actually surprised it got that much nominations at the Emmys.

well, i like the fantasy sequences 'cause they're not overdone and they actually function to move the plot a bit unlike ally where they're mostly just played for laughs.

I liked that whole exchange betwwen keith and claire tonight.

Re : the emmy's
You know them, they're always behind. They never really give the awards when it's most deserved. parang oscars.  ;D

my favorite line from tonight's ep:

"I wish that just once people wouldn't act like the cliches that they are." - claire fisher

Isn't that ironic?

I think aside from being funny and sometimes dark, the reason why people like this show is because the characters are more screwed up than the audience watching it. They get a sense of pride that their lives are at least a little better than these unfortunate souls.  ;D

So far, Claire is my favorite character also.

I laughed so hard when she said:

That's gonna get annoying after a time. C ref. Ally McBeal.

Speaking as someone underwhelmed by the show, of course. The cast is really good, but how far can you take whiny dumbasses whining about their relatively privileged lives? I realize it's ridiculous to apply real-world values to TV shows, but as someone in the third world, I think the characters are all cruising for a smackdown. Stop whining, start living, people. Do you know what kind of advantages you hold?

I think Alan Ball just rubs me the wrong way. I was annoyed as hell with American Beauty, as well.

The mother actually is the one that's really pathetic.  Keith is the closest to reality you'll ever get in this show.  Brenda is just so animated.. especially in the second season.

The usual premise that the dead person in the introduction has something to with the storyline is gonna go away after a couple of episodes. The dead people are just gonna be there for amusement .. or just to stay in the funeral homes setting.

Yeah, not enough gore :P

I dunno about you, kakabanas, but I think the writers actually MEANT the series NOT to be so close to reality.  If that's the case then what would be interesting about a family whose only special thing is that death is their way of life?

And this one's probably just me, but I can imagine the show having laugh tracks.  Except, different people find the funny parts in different places.  And that's the amazing thing about the series.  Well, so far. :)

3rd episode's mighty entertaining.  Hope they get to keep it up!  (but i'd be happy if they dump the fantasy sequences-- it's getting old nowadays)

Don't get me wrong here man, I don't want it to be close to reality .. but at least make the characters stop being pretentious and over the top. And sure it's a dark comedy masquerading as a drama .. and I wouldn't enjoy a laugh track either ...  but come on, stop whining and start living. I mean what kind of stupid mother would give her money to some "mafia" to pay her lover's debt .. and her lover didn't even care? That's just stupid and wrong ... especially since their business is in a little trouble.  Jack Bauer is out there killing people giving them a lot of customers ... if it was other funeral homes, they'd just be happy taking in all the dead people and making good money.  ;D ;D ;D

I got ya, chief.  I guess it's just a matter of staying tuned as the series goes on, then we could compare notes.

But for now, I'm enjoying it.  On to episode 4 tonight!

Err, that's tonight isn't it?

Err, that's tonight isn't it?

Yup, 10PM tonight, Tuesday, with a rerun on Saturday at 11:15PM.

kabag, the thing you posted about the mafia is quite a spoiler for almost everyone else on this thread. We're only up to episode 3 on HBO Asia (4 later tonight). I don't mind too much, it's not a show like "24" where spoilers would completely ruin the experience, but I just thought I'd remind you we're way behind, so a spoiler warning in the future would be appreciated. Thanks!

I dunno about you, but I think I'm getting more "attached" to these characters as the episodes roll along.  :)  One example is Brenda, who turns out to be a genius, and who I found totally unattractive in the first episode.

Also, I take back what I said about fantasy sequences.  They're good, as long as they aren't overdone.

Lastly, I'm starting to get annoyed with those cuts and censored words and all.  For one, if they can show some intimate moments between man and woman, can't they also between two men?  What, think the audience can't handle it?

Ruth, I sort of like, I think she's funny and very human. But Billy, I totally can't stand the guy!

Oh and can anyone please tell me what exactly happened to david and keith? why'd they break up? i missed those episodes and the synopsis (es...is...synopsi... whatever the plural of synopsis is) i found on the net just said they broke up. no details.
