TV Series Reunion Shows
« on: Feb 07, 2005 at 07:11 PM »
The Happy Days 30th Anniversary Reunion show on ABC last week was rather interesting. I think it's the first time I've seen a reunion show done which had participation from ALL the principal characters. They've luckily had no deaths nor bitter feuds which would've caused someone much loved to be missing.

The format of the show, though, borrowed heavily from last year's Dallas Reunion. The first hour had clips hosted by the stars at their "home" (Southfork for Dallas, The Cunningham residence for Happy Days), then the second hour had a "live on stage" reunion at a familiar show set (The Oil Baron's Ball for Dallas, Arnold's for Happy Days), and both even had "Special Surprise Appearances" from (in)famous guest stars towards the end of the shows.

I have a feeling we're in for a lot of other 70s-80s TV Show Reunions in the next few months...

Huwag naman. You'd have Jennifer O'Neill talking to herself, since Jon-Erik Hexum died on-set and his replacement, Antony Hamilton, died of AIDS in 1995.  ;D

I knew there was something fishy about the Dallas/Happy Days reunions - it turns out both were Executive Produced by Henry "The Fonz" Winkler. Kaya pala!

His next projects: Knots Landing and Welcome Back, Kotter

From USA Today:

ABC airs its Happy Days reunion Feb. 3. And it could be because of Housewives' huge success that CBS has hired former Fonzie Henry Winkler (who produced last year's Dallas reunion) to reassemble the cast of TV's original naughty cul-de-sac denizens for a Knots Landing get-together.

"I've already spoken with Ted Shackelford and Donna Mills," said Winkler, who will soon call John Travolta about a Welcome Back, Kotter special ABC wants Winkler to produce.

I wonder if they'll include Nicolette Sheridan? The last Knots Landing "reunion" mini-series I saw hardly even showed her.

Boy, she was pretty then, but she aged badly; she looks godawful in Desperate Housewives--her ugly, bloated face looks like someone who abused botox through the years.

I would really like a Northern Exposure reunion; it's just too bad that Peg Phillips, who played Ruth-Anne, died sometime in 2002.  :'(

The Happy Days reunion featured all the show's spin-offs, as well. Although they did get live appearances from both Laverne AND Shirley, Mork and Mindy were only seen in archive footage.

The recent Dynasty reunion wasn't a hit like that of Dallas. I dunno which one was more popular here in Manila but in our province, it was Dynasty;D

Speaking of the Dynasty Reunion on CBS, if you visit the special's official site at http://www.cbs.com/specials/dynasty...

The second paragraph?

I wrote that.  ;D

No joke! They restructured the paragraph to incorporate the actors' names, but every single adjective/character description is by me.

It was a very good reunion. Linda Evans looked really... plastic. John James and Heather Locklear were glaringly absent, even from the stock footage - they probably wanted more money. It was nice to see the rest of the cast there, though - all of Blake and Alexis' original children, with the "replacement children" only appearing in previously shot interviews. That was quite unfair for Jack Coleman, since he did play Steven Carrington longer than Al Corley did.

You're not only the reliable resident AI prognosticator but CBS' ghost writer?  ;D Kudos, Mr. Hankey!

Now, that reunion is on schedule.  ;D
