Guys, is it possible to re-encode the two channel audio of a vhs into dolby digital 5.1 when transferring the material from VHS to DVD?
I'm curious as to whether this is possible.

Yes, I've done this a few times for music videos. I just used Sonic Foundry Acid Pro and Sony DVD Architect. It's fun and easy once you get the hang of it! I didn't even do a lot of reading, just played around with panning and the OOPS effect.

I've also done some experimenting on this using the OOPS effect. But it's not really a discrete thing but more like encoding a prologic effect into 5.1. You might as well just listen to stereo in prologic.
But I think a VHs with prologic material has excellent chances of getting better 5.1 encoding. But the effort can be laborious or tedious. Unless your video capture card or sound card has 5.1 Analog INPUT and your receiver has 5.1 output.
