malaking bagay yung tip mo chief, thanks. mas clear from the 1st row seating kesa dati mataas and hindi nakakangawit sa leeg.

mura na yung nabili mo sa ebay. sige tingin ako mya ng pwede pamalit ko sa blackout cloth ko.

many thanks Munskie

Mine i just employed trial and error. -- that is from pure white flatwall to the darkest gray possible. I painted half side of the plywood white flatwall then the other side light gray. After testing it out and learning that the light gray was better, i now painted the white side with darker shade of gray -- and so forth. -- i retained the best shade and yun na ang ginamit ko.  ;D

Just noticed that my 100 inch DIY screen using blackout cloth sagged a little on some parts when I left it unused for some time. I didn't experience this on my 80 inch DIY screen.  But if I use the projector, the sags  just disappear and flatten out again.  Any of you guys experience this?

I fastened my DIY SCREEN on a piece of 8 x 4 plywood using stappler and masking tapes. I also braced it with  2" x 2cm flat bar. so far it is still tight until now. When i was painting the screen, it sagged heavily so while it was still wet i pulled from all sides and fastened it with masking tape, after which I attached the bracing. I noticed that as it dried up the vinyl screen tightened nicely.

or according to your wife preference  ;)

Recently I spotted a greyish formica in ace.. it seems to me this is a good DIY screen. Just wondering if somebody is using a formica DIY screen here.

Mga Bros wag na kayo mag DIY, I have limited stock of WHITE MOTORIZED 92" screen at a very affordable price ;) pinull-out ko lang sa isa client ko, hindi makabayad eh :( :( :( details below:

Screen size is 92" diagonal Glass beaded with GAIN 2.0
Total width = 212 cm
Total height = 165 cm, including drop
viewable ht x wd = 114cm x 203cm.

Defect: there are paint imperfections on the "drop". there is NO problem at all with the viewable area. You can choose not to extend the drop so the imperfections will not be visible.

Apparently this problem is common to glass beaded screens. You can also spray paint the casing if you want it in black or any other color you like to match your room ambience :-* (Acrylic epoxy spray paint only 150pesos)

Just recently tested the TARPAULIN. The color of projected image was good but very shiny and the hotspotting was obvious.

To subdue the reflection, I painted it with plain white flat latex. The paint refused to stick on the TARPU with the roller so I used a brush, though the roller had become convenient during the second coating. The paint made the TARPU a lil thicker and improved its texture. Now without hotspotting, the image looked TERRIFIC.

Expenses:
TARPU -90/yard x 2 = 180
Flat Latex paint = 130
 ;D

Next to try will be the laminate / formica. What is popular abroad is the Designer White Wilsonart Laminate which i have yet to find it here. What they have in ACE is the UNICA brand. For 280/piece (4'x8') only, I may experiment on using this during this long xmas vacation  ;D

mga sirs, im researching on what type of screen to use, and I come across this thread.
its very informative.

I would like to DIY my screen using Tarpholin (<<spell check) the same material used for printed banners.
I will ask them to print a blackborder with this tarpholin. Im going this route cause I wanted this to double as blind and a screen.
However, I have a couple of questions for those with projector setup.

Any have tried using a trapholin? will this suffice as screen?

TIA

Happy new year

hi @brogger,

i think it has been discussed that tarps have irregular finish and as such might affect the image projected, i think for diy, its better to go with black out cloth. i think its the same price as tarps but more easy to work with as its not as hard as tarps. i think its available in all shell canvass outlets. and as the name suggest, it also blocks out light so it can also double as a blind.  :)

I have experimented on this -- using the plain white tarpu is a no no.. hotspotting will be your bigger problem. However, you can apply generous coating of flat white latex to eliminate the mirroring effect.

Right now i repainted my dark gray DIY plastic screen with flat white latex just to havea new look and here's a sample of the image result:

Bro my friend bought this thin plastic material by mistake in divisoria when i requested him to buy a BOC for me last year. The color is white, shiny in one side. Instead of throwing this away, I attached this on my DIY plywood screen. I painted it initially with white latex and from time to time repainted it with other shades, until before returning to pure white again my DIY screen was dark gray, which i like it very much because of its high contrast image effect.

The tarpu can perform very similar to this only if painted it with white latex.  ;)

Mine is a non-painted BOC bought in DV, mounted on a 1x4 frame, then a decorative frame in front.

tama ka amigong Juancho, marami kang maiisip na designs. pwedeng plasma-look, dahon, isda, and a lot more... pati sa materials ang daming options. in fact, ang isang design na nasa isip ko dikitan mo ang frame ng mga dead corals, sand and shells tapos spray it with flat black paint. tapos, tapos, dami pang ideas whew!  :o

I'm building my own 103" 16:9 BOC screen, I'd just like to check if my measurements are right my computations said 90"x51.3" = 103" 16:9 screen

Second can you guys suggest paint that can be used for the cloth?
