I was planning to buy a Philips 642k when i saw this new Philips 5500s. It has all the features of 642k (except karaoke). 12-bit/108Mhz video DAC. Divx 3.11/4/5(haven't tried yet). | .wma. | PLUS it can also playSACD!Pareho lang price nya sa 642k. got it at P6790.

Abenson Shangri-la. I think available sya mostly sa Abensons stores. Tiningnan ko sa ibang stores wala pa.

oo yan yun. wala nga akong makitang english version ng infos/reviews sa player na to. gusto ko sana gawing multi-region pero wala ako makita for this model. Add ko lang sa features nya yung ProLogic II.

Get back to us on the 2-number designation.

Downloaded the 00 manual and it's quite featured for its price - a great value I must say for its price. It has CD upsampling otions up to 4x (176.4khz). Has prologic II. Minimal bass management (large and small settings) but has delay compensation for the surrounds. Screen color and attributes can be personalized. It plays MP3,Divx, MPEG4, WMA and Jpeg pictures. It plays virtually every digital format known to man except DVD-Audio.

Just don't know what its DAC sampling rate is (192/24 or 96/24). And whether SACD's DSD format is converted to PCM before the DAC.

im using this player with altec lansing 5.1 pc speaker. Tanong ko lang po, kakayanin kaya ng speaker ko pag nag-play ako ng SACD?

the last two digit in the Philips models are TV system.

/71 is MultiSystem while /69 is NTSC (or the other way around)

Seems to me this player is not officially released locally. But by the looks of it, it is at par, if not superior to any DVD player locally released by Philips thus far.

SACD levels are just about the same as DD and DTS. DTS-CD may have louder levels but still should not pose any problem for PC speakers at reasonable volume levels.

also bought this player a while ago in abensons filinvest alabang.. medyo matagal namin na test kanina mabuti yung salesperson was patient enough to wait.. i brought with me a ridata dvd+rw packed with mixed divx, xvid, mp3, wma, mpeg1 and also a divx6.0 demo file (clip courtesy of firewired from the philips 642k thread). anyway it played the divx 6.0 clip very well, i can change the 3 audio source on the fly, and also the subtitles was big enough to read. it played the divx 6.0 file with the original filename extension .divx. i also liked the navigation of this player.. while playing a mp3 file i can browse through the directories.. i can also slideshow jpg files while the mp3 is playing on the background..

PAL dvd to NTSC was also nicely played compared with my old philips 762k player.. anyway, very happy with this player.. its more like a media center imho.

what i need right now is a remote control code how to make it a region free player.. 7 8 9 didnt work.

any inputs..?

still using the same remote as the philips 642k.

but a much big improvement compared to my philips 762k player..
also no eject button.. but the 2-sec stop button still works..

i guarantee that it will make your Philips DVP5500S a multi-region player..

You can check at Ansons, if they have stocks. I just bought mine during the Ansons' Installment Madness held at Glorietta last monday.

i just finished downloading 14 OGM video files around 3.3Gb all in all, and i thought that it wouldn't be recognized by the dvp5500s.. copied it all to a dvd+rw.. and to my surprise it played all my OGM files..

unfortunately i can't turn on the subtitle and switch audio.. anyway i'll try to demux the .SRT file from the OGM container file next time to see if i can turn on the subtitle by separating it..
also tried encoding an audioCD to OGG audio file and it played the file flawlessly..

i was just surprised because its an undocumented feature for this player..
anyway i was very very happy with OGM playback..
